You’ll have to trust me, friends, that everything I show you this week is way more interesting than it first appears!
Like, at first I was excited that this was a Cowichan Sweater…but it’s not, then I was sad, and then I looked again and was happy again! Friends, this coat was handmade in Nepal (where I guess they have Caribou? I don’t know Things) with wool….
Annnnnnnd…..da-da-ta-da, it’s lined! This one is going to be sooooo cozy, friends!
Now, you see, this may look like just a black sweatshirt with maybe a cute cat on it, but WAIT!
The front of this sweater is covered with black-on-black embroidered critters!
I see a fox!
However, not only is the blue cat the star of the show, the blue cat is actually….
…..a velcro patch! I think you might even be able to move it around to go over the other embroidered illustrations, but I was too scared that I wouldn’t be able to get the cat back on straight (I’m 3 credits short of my engineering degree….and those 3 credits were for a course called “Making Things Straight 465”)!
I hope your affairs are in order, friends, because you might die. Starting nnnnnnnnnow: VINTAGE FLUEVOGS!!!!!
These Fluevogs are the great-great-great-grandparents of the 2-strap Aimee mary-janes. How can I be sure? I have 3 pairs of them (I had different priorities back then!)….and I bought them all 15-20 years ago and even THEY weren’t constructed like these even back then! Friends, I’m seriously sweating.
Modern Aimees don’t have this cute, tiny bow -which should to be brought back!- but they do all have the most important part….
….the F-Sole. Gah kug hic. I am choking. And now I am dead.
From the past right into the future (although, maybe those Fluevogs are from the future and not the past?! OMG, my eyes just widened way too much!). Again, I would never show you something boring, so get ready for……
…..a cape!! I can’t wait to see this one a human to see how this drapes!
Friends, can you believe that a few months ago I hadn’t even heard of Kyn Apparel, who are local AND who I-Know-Her from when I had a real job, but who I haven’t reached out to -not because I’m pretty sure she has no idea who I am because at the time I was already an old vampire and she was a super-talented rising star, but it’s really not about that- yet.
Designer Alèthe (I KNOW HER!) uses African prints and fabrics to create her beautiful garments and accessories. Each are hand-made and unique!
Wait wait, I promise it’s not a boring black hoodie!
First, there’s the bell sleeves.
And because this is Montréal brand Daily Stories, you know what that means! Magical messages built into the garment. In this case, the message is broken up sweetly and discreetly on the edges of each sleeve!
Ce qui ne tue pas (What doesn’t kill you)….
Rend plus fort (Makes you stronger)
As it happens to be my wedding anniversary next week (the “yanniversary”, yes?) and we just talked about the Fluevog Aimees, here’s a pic of me at my wedding in my blue Aimees!
Sooooo, what’s up with you? In case you are curious, my daughters have gone back to elementary school, as have Alex’s kids. (Who’s Alex, you ask? Welllll, come down to the shop on Thursdays to meet her yourself! She’s like me, only less obnoxious and much more charming!). And guess what?! Starting in October, we are going to have Red Pony open on Fridays as well as Thursdays and Saturdays! (That means we are open Thursday-Friday-Saturday, for those of you who, like me, need someone to connect the dots there). Since we’ll be working in the shop one day more per week, we are going to have to cut the delivery service. Sorry!
Now, since I am a very laid-back person who adapts easily to change and never, ever freaks out and pretends to go run errands but actually parks the car a block away from the house and watches Netflix on her phone for 2 hours while eating an entire “family size” bag of kettle chips and drinking from her kid’s water bottle that she found rolling under the seat, I am sooooooo chill about this. On this occasion, however, after an embarrassingly long panic attack, I had to remind myself that there had been a time…not that long ago… when Red Pony was open a whole 5 days a week and everything was fine! Pfffffffftt! So, anyways, this week come to visit me on Thursday and Saturday (bring pep-talks!), and then NEXT WEEK come Thursday, Friday and Saturday to make sure I’m ok, ok?
