Holy crap, friends, I think I may have an actual theme for this week’s blog! What would you say to “stunning colours”? “The richness of colour”? Too wordy? Too corporate? Anyways, Something Something About Colour!
I’m pretty sure that this vintage dress is handmade (which means it’s extra special!). This is a simple sheath dress, but the pattern placement of the fabric is everything! The maker has placed that golden bamboo perfectly with the stalks (and some sort of bird?) at the bottom and the leaves near at the top! That is some serious mindfulness from the maker!
The golds and, oh yeah, the oranges!! (See that? C-O-L-O-U-R-S!)
Ok, I may start sweating profusely here, friends. This incredible piece is not only real pearls…..but real *yellow* pearls.
That’s right! do not attempt to adjust your screen, these pearls are naturally yellow! They were born this way, from some sort of a special yellow-pearl-making mollusk. (The consignor did a great job of explaining how yellow pearls are cultivated, and I was secretly not paying attention because I assumed Alex was paying attention, which she WAS, except that when I asked her to explain it to me I stopped paying attention again and then I didn’t want to be weird and ask her to repeat it AGAIN just because I can’t pay attention to anything for longer than -look at all the icing on that cinnamon bun!) Anyways, they are gorgeous canary yellow colour (C-O-L-O-U-R) and look just magical!
This necklace is knotted between each pearl, and the fastens with a filigree fish-hook clasp. Classy all the way!
Oooooo, it has been a while since I’ve reminded you when talking about Fridget Apparel that I KNOW HER! I mean, we are so close that we have this inside joke/game that we play where she pretends she has no idea who I am…..and never likes my pics….or answers my DMs…but that is true for a lot of my friendships! Eeeeeew, this has gone somewhere I did not intend…..ANYWAYS, this gorgeous dress is by one of our local faves and I can’t believe how incredible and under-used this colour is! (C-O-L-O-U-R)
It’s got the wheat print on it, which is the final detail to signal that this piece is totally unique!
Hmph, well I guess thus ends my big plan to do a colour theme. But I couldn’t NOT share these booties with you and explain why they are incredible (because you can’t see it right off). Ready? These matt black boots are…..PRADA! I KNOW! I also choked on my mouthful of icing that I scooped off the top of my cinnamon bun so that I could go back and ask for more icing!
We are going to cut straight to what is special, here friends, and that is what is happening with the heel. See how it is delicately curved?
Well, that curve is actually covered with a silver plate! Is that from the future OR WHAT?!
AHEM, what have we here?….oh yeah, MORE COLOUR! (C-O-L-O-U-R) But, for real, friends, you have to come visit this coat in person to fully appreciate the awesomeness and uniqueness of this colour! This is the best purple ever! And the coat itself is bonkers! It’s wool (obs) and check out the actual shoulder pads!
To offset the frankly ginormous shoulders pads, it has this very feminine cuffed bishop sleeve.
And although it doesn’t have any buttons (why would you want those on a winter coat?) it has this exaggerated cowl that drapes down the front in a scarf shape.
Here’s a picture of me modeling the coat so that you can see how ridiculous - and by “ridiculous” of course I mean AWESOME- this coat looks on a human.
Actually, the store is awash with these kinds of vintage wool coats right ( and a few Cinder and Smoke coats too, if that is more your thing wink-wink). Here’s another of my favourites (it also doesn’t fit into the colour theme, but arg, that’s why I don’t do themes or generally follow through with anything.
I like the super-long length and the no-nonsense, military feel to this one. Plus, it has buttons (if that type of thing is important to you) and no-nonsense details like this no-nonsense lapel pocket.
That’s it for this week, friends! Don’t forget that Red Pony is now open Fridays as well as Thursdays and Saturdays. (So we are open Thursday to Saturday; I just like to say it in the most confusing way possible!) Phew, can you believe there was a time when shops were just open on ALL THE DAYS!? For now you have three days to come down to the shop to catch up, so pop in and I can show you all the great jewelry we got in, we can try on all the coats together and you can explain to me what happened in Elona Holmes because I have questions. See you soon, friends!
