OK, friends, we’ve got all kinds of random animals and loads of our Canadian faves to check out this week!
These gorgeous ivory high-waisted pants are kinda familiar, but also kinda weird, so you know they must be from…THE FUTURE!
I mean, check out how high-waisted and Katherine Hepburn-For-Outer-Space these are!
Because I cannot try these pants on for you -nor touch them…or even approach them because I will get them dirty even by just thinking about them too hard- here are a couple ideas of how I would wear them in my head:
Colourful top tucked in…
…..or flowey cropped shirt. Both looks are Astronaut-Katharine-Hepburn approved!
Now, friends, we have a ghost. Dace is a clothing brand from Vancouver that is no longer with us. So it’s special to have some in the store!
This romper is adorable, and light-touch on the pleats in the shorts and the top give this one a summer, gamine feel that I love!
The material is actually grey with eyelet stripes.
But the best part is the buttons……..HORSE BUTTONS!!!
So, friends, I thought for sure this purse was vintage, but this is from quirky Brighton bags and is from nowadays. I guess to me this is surprising because elements like the woven strap, the bubble-heart charm and ornate heart closure all together so earnestly reads as 90s to me. Well, keep being you Black Brighton Purse!
I love this binocular-bag oval shape in a purse (which, again, to me reads as vintage! Am I nuts?)!
Inside you will find a serial number. Gulp, this bag is more serious than the little silver heart charm lets on…
Ok, let’s fill it up! This one will hold your mom-wallet, favourite yellow reusable bag with the ostriches on it, earbuds, medicine/first aid pouch with hand sanitizer inside, reusable mask, new sloth pouch that you got at Majesty and Friends when you went to pick-up your order of father’s day gifts because you need a gift too and you’ve been waiting so long for her to stock the sloth again and there is nothing wrong with that but you still didn’t mention it to your spouse in case you got that look because you are an adult and you don’t have to justify your choices, and two packs of gum.
If you are the type to check our online shop, like, daily (I know you are!), then have you noticed that we have so much Cinder + Smoke flowing into the shop these days?! This is the type of top that you may just cruise by at first, but if you stop for a minute it really grows on you. The colours are a unique combo, and I think on a human they will really pop!
I love the mixing up of the planes on the back…..
….and the adorable button!
Oooooo, friends, I must tell you that I am *almost* not cool enough to be near this skirt. No, wait, I am cool enough! So are you!
Check out the curved detail here! I have never seen anything like this and it is such a modern and fashion-forward approach to a denim skirt!
I tried to over-expose this pic so that you can see the splatter on it. This skirt is actually a very dark denim, and the splatter is grey and almost not perceptible except that it slightly gleams. I guess a distressed, paint-splotched garment is nothing new, but they just nailed this one. The splatter effect has a more industrial feel rather than accident-at-the-kids-craft-table feel. It is also well localized on the one side of the skirt, but still organic with a bit on the other sides.
The back has pockets and a splotch of grey. I totally dig this skirt!
Wear it with the Cinder + Smoke top!
Now this is a very unexpected special treat: a Nokomis hat!!!!
This charcoal grey cloche is wool….but we treasure it in any season anyways! Check out the cute bow at the back……
….and the very best part is the BUNNIES perfectly centred on the back!!! And look how much fun they are having!!!
It was hard to get a good picture that really showed the great shape of this hat so you will have to come to the shop and see it for yourself!
Friends, I KNOW HER!! Sorry, I couldn’t wait to say it! OK, so this hand-made skirt is a very early creation from Kyn Apparel. Alèthe Kaboré of Kyn Apparel is originally from Burkina Faso and I knew her when she was a university student! Now she’s an award winning local designer! (I there any way that I can make this about me?)
Kyn Apparel uses African fabrics in all their designs and creations. The fabric on this skirt is a thicker brushed cotton and the pattern is absolutely gorgeous!
This skirt has pockets (merci Alèthe!), and can you see how the same purple contrast fabric used in the generous, wide waistband and hem is on the inside of the pocket? This type of attention to detail is why we love independent designers; it shows us that not only was this piece mindfully designed, but also that there is such love and respect for the beauty of the fabric.
(Kyn Apperel also makes re-usable masks!)
So when I saw this dress I started calling it the “landscape dress” in my head, but then as I was checking the care-tags it said right on it “Cloud Dress”! I was so close!
Friends, this belt of from Montreal brand Noujica!
Noujica is a sustainability brand….
….and all the prints are hand-drawn and printed so that each piece is unique!
This belt is an easy-wear because…it’s elasticized! Yessssssss!
Ok, one more Quebecois eco-brand, because it’s just too cute! This is an easy, stretchy black jersey dress….with a goldfish on the front……
….and fish-theme on the back too! Forget putting a bird on it. put a FISH on it!
These fishies have a message for you:
And did you see the fish buttons?! Pony buttons, fish button, I am dead.
During our shut down I spent alot of time trying on clothes for those of you who needed more info on sizing and how things fit (yes I do requests! Just email or DM me!). I’m trying to proactively do more of that, and I have forced -I mean, I have asked nicely Camera-Shy-Alex to also try things on because I think it is helpful to see things on different body types. So here I am in the the Poisson Rouge dress:
And Alex in the same dress:
Look how cute the back is!!
Don’t forget that we are open Thursdays (12-6) and Saturdays (10-5)! You can meet Alex on Thursdays, and I am there harassing her to take pictures and talk about Friends on Thursdays too! And then I am in the shop on Saturday so come down for a visit and we can talk about Friends, friends!
