I’ve got lots of surprises for you this week, friends!
Bear with me here because I know at first this skirt seems like it is no big deal….but WAIT. First of all, this is from our beloved Nokomis (that’s right!). And not only that, this skirt has an owl print on it!
Allow me to blow it out for you!
This skirt is taffeta (I am actually totally making that up as I am not entirely sure what taffeta is, but I know it’s a big deal in Anne of Green Gables and this is how I imagine it in my head) and has a shimmer of its own, and the owl ink is a browny-grey which also has a shimmer to it. All this so that basically at first people won’t see the owl, but as you walk and move around it will peek out!
This is also a fishtail/wiggle skirt!
We’re going to have a long talk about this necklace, friends, and as someone who like the tines of her fork to line up (seriously, Rod will sometimes set the table and purposefully bend a tine just to watch me freak out. He finds this funny. I do not.), I suggest we all go get our protractors first.
The pedant is tetrahedron shaped; so imagine an asymmetrical pyramid, or the general shape of the Delta Flyer from Star Trek Voyager.
There are only 4 surfaces, which I think is important because this isn’t just a triangular necklace; it’s so much more than that!
Maybe this will help:
I’m so obsessed with the shape that I can’t even get into how pretty and edgy the stone is!
Hey, remember when you were a Roman mathematician/Katniss Everdeen and this was the top you wore?!
The detailing on this top is exquisite! This thick braiding at the neck and arms…..
….and the pleated asymmetrical peplum……
…..and the buttons down the back!!!!! I am dead now.
Friends, I feel like I am getting closer and closer to my lab-coat goals! (Like, I would like to wear a lab-coat type thing as an actual top. So, um, basically what I’m looking for is an actual lab-coat?) This The Candi Factory jacket is made in Toronto! (The designer’s name is Candice. Get it?)
The cropped sleeves, the patch pockets, those buttons! Love, love, love.
Yup, yup, it’s a very sensible shoe.
But here’s what’s important about these Clarks: the super geeky toe box! This sort of fashion forward subtle geekery is hard to capture, so I am counting on you to understand the Jeanne-Damas-esque-ness that I am getting at here.
I tried so hard to get a picture of the *essence* of these shoes, but you might need to picture some sort of wide-legged, cropped, minimalist linen overalls or something.
And in other sensible/geeky/vintage news: hello 90s summer dress!
Yes, you had an aunt who wore this all the time. With white shoes. And now you can too!
So maybe there was the possibility that this is a massively manufactured skirt and that you could run into someone wearing the same one. BUT, I have inspected it for you and have determined that this is, in fact, a one-of-a-kind monster skirt!
This patchwork is so weird and cool! And can you see the beading on the creature’s “ear”?
And also on whatever this part of its body is? I love these details!
Ok, I’m kinda only just now realizing that I have fallen into some 90s vortex, but I couldn’t not show you this choker! This just seems so cool to me now!
This one is layered, which I think makes it extra badass, like what Buffy would wear as an adult. To the office. Having a meeting. Submitting the Weekly Estimated Net Usage Systems report (the WENUS) on time. Quietly putting the plate she ate her lunch on into the staff-room sink and sneaking off hoping not to get caught by Cheryl who wrote the increasingly aggressive note about everyone doing their own dishes because it is a “communal kitchen”. Doing a triumphant dance when she finally got the printer to print only page 1 of 1 of the request and not ALL 82. Researching her health spending account to see when she can get new glasses. Leaving work early looking rushed and annoyed with her a giant laptop bag so that everyone thinks she is heading for an important meeting when she is really heading home early so she can watch Voyager. We’ve all been there.
Friends, have you seen that Hamilton -with the original Broadway cast!!!!!- is now on [insert major streaming network]?!? Naturally I am devoting a *very normal* amount time to watching it over and over and, you know, maybe learning some of the choreography and sewing myself a little custom. Or whatever. I AM VERY NORMAL. Don’t forget: the shop hours for now are Thursdays 12-6 and Saturdays 10-5 (the online store gets stocked up almost everyday!), so come down to see how cute the shop looks these days, check out all the Cinder + Smoke that we have and we can talk about anything that you want……anything at all…. and if what you want to talk happens to be Hamilton, Star Trek Voyager or Buffy, then I am fine with all those things!
