Friends, let me tell you, if you thought going from “work bra” permanently to “home bra” was the end of the line, let me introduce you to my new best friend: lived-at-bottom-of-laundry-basket-for-7-years nursing bra. But it’s important for us to stay in touch with our SEVEN YEARS POST NURSING (what have I come to?!?!) pre-pandemic selves through the magic of fashion! (Friends, in case you are thinking I have totally lost my marbles, rest assured: I am still wearing earrings.) And don’t forget: you can get all of these in our online shop with free delivery (by me!) in Edmonton!
So, friends, does this incredible dress immediately light up parts of your brain that have been dormant for weeks or what?! This dress is giving me all the feels: I can imagine walking outside in this dress on a hot day with lots of other people around, I know the shoes I would wear and even which undergarments would be most appropriate!
We have Preloved! (Preloved -like Kate Spade- always seems to come to Red Pony in twos….and it just so happens we have a Preloved skirt in our online shop!) As happens with Preloved dresses sometimes, this one looked confusing and underwhelming on the hanger, but it looks compelling and fashion-forward on a form! I would LOVE to see this one on a human!
For the sake of, well, proving I know my Preloved here it is on the hanger. Sad trombone.
I love this high crew neck and the asymmetrical cut-out. The grey colour here can lean masculine, but I think a pop of skin right there at the top is going to look awesome!
But the funnest feature is this panel on the side! Not only does it add asymmetry (my favourite!), but I have had dresses like this and when you walk it creates great swooshy and fluttery movement!
So, guess what? These d’orsays are rubber!
I feel lighter and more comfortable just looking at them. But, what makes these different from your childrens’ rubber shoes is not just the lack of sand inside (harhar, that’s for all the parents out there, amirite), but the big, dramatic bow!
Do you remember at the end of February when you went to the office AS USUAL, shook hands with some people at a meeting, had lunch at a {local, independent} restaurant with a few friends that you hugged as a greeting before ordering a plate of nachos to share together, and then you went back to the office and pressed the floor button on the elevator with your bare finger, and then since you weren’t quite ready to start concentrating on work after those yummy nachos you went on to redpony.ca to read the Wednesday blog and you saw that green skirt we had? Well, this black Workhall skirt is exactly the same as that one! (Um, except it’s black, a different size and there will me no hand-shaking, hugging, nacho sharing or elevator button pushing.) (But, hey, there IS a blog!)
Just like that green skirt, this one has the buttons down the front and the large side pockets.
Are we ready to explore something fun, friends? Something like an adorable little linen jacket from Anthropologie? The cropped shape and sleeves plus that mandarin collar give the jacket an elevated sense of design, but friends, I really don’t know what I love most! This jacket makes me feel so happy!
I love the birds and how they are detailed enough to have an expression of curiosity and joy on their little faces….
…but I also love the big orange spotted circles…
…..and I love the bubbly vines! And I don’t know how they did it, but all these colours go together!
The back is just as cute:
Even the lining is cute!
Ohhhhhh, friends, vintage Doc Marten Louis Gusset Slip-On shoe in traditional oxblood! I’ve never seen these before!
Note how the yellow stitching is not visible on this shoe. I guess this made it a “dressier” shoe?
And the elastics for ease of slipping on and off! They’re like fancy Vans!
Of course I tried these on for you and pranced around the store.
I love how they look like something from the school uniform at Twin Peaks School for Wicked Girls!
These are a touch to big for me, so they all yours!
I would say this is our special treat this week, but these days anything that is not leggings with a hole by the crotch is a treat! This Nanette Lepore jacket is great, though!
This jacket is faux suede and is meant to be worn open, but it does have these fun tassels that you can tie up at the neck!
And can you see this beautiful eyelash lace detail running down the edges? So pretty!
This little Oak+Fort jacket is the minimalist version of the Nanette Lepore jacket!
Also doesn’t attach in the front, but no tassels or lace.
I have always been intrigued by this neckalce when it was in the showcase, and I’m so glad I took the time to take it out and explore it! It’s one of the coolest pieces I’ve seen in a while!
Erica Weiner creates her designs using vintage pieces, which I think make up this necklace as well and probably why this one really pops.
The little “fans” (or do we think they are leafs?) are netted and transparent….
….oh, and that pendant does THIS!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH I LOVE THIS!!
Now, friends, the anatomy of this necklace is important, so try to piece it together in your mind. The necklace is made up of two different chains. One chain is short with a fan/leaf pendant; it is the choker section. The second chain is longer and has the locket, and hanging from the same link as the locket is the second fan so that the two are fixed in place on the chain despite the fact that it looks like you can slide them around. For some reason this detail makes the necklace all the more intriguing and unique!
A sensible shirt-dress from Kit & Ace!
I think that shirt-dresses are going to be an important intermediary in the transition back to regular, civilized clothing. I love the lab coat vibes of this one!
To help us transition from feral clothing, this dress has even made its belt more simple for us by building it in as a drawstring. This is so my speed right now, friends!
I dug into the men’s section and found this!
These bikers are keeping their distance!
And now for some real talk: friends, since we have had to close the shop things have been pretty tough and I haven’t been able to watch one single episode of Picard! And….I haven’t told anyone this, but…and this is a tough one….I didn’t finish watching season 6 of The 100. This is no way to live, friends! With the children at home all day long all my mental and physical energy has been spent trying to eat chocolate and potato chips without them noticing or catching me or -gah- wanting me to share it with them. This is a full time job, friends! And I draw the line at sharing chocolate.
The point is that now that the girls are at home from school, I don’t have as much time to focus on the things that are important to me (sci-fi TV shows and junk food), so I have to make a few modifications. So there will be no blog next week (sorry! But those Cadbury mini-eggs aren’t going to eat themselves!), but I’ll be back on the 22nd AND I’m updating the online shop almost daily, so come back and check it often!
And joking aside, friends, I want to say that small business owners like my spouse Rod and myself, but also the others out there, we know when you are buying something to be supportive. We know that you maybe don’t URGENTLY need that drum kit or pink translucent kitten heels right now. We can tell when you are doing it for the sole, conscious and mindful purpose of supporting a small business that’s going through a hard time…..and we love you for it. Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who has been so supportive duringjdhkjsfhfas cAn’T tYPe,.,.,.,…,.,., some sort of salty fluid has compromised my eyesight!!! Why does this keep happening?! Not enough chocolate!
I’ll see you waving through the window as I drop your parcel off on your porch, friends, and we’ll catch up here in 2 weeks!
