Friends, all I want to do is look at clothes and talk about clothes and imagine a world where my yoga pants and pyjama top only come out for the very briefest fraction of my day and I don’t go to bed trying to remember if this is the same outfit I slept in the night before and being mystified by the complex workings of a bra.
Let’s immerse ourselves in the clothing with an item that is super weird and I am totally crazy about. Friends, we welcome today into our lives these, um, shorts? Do not mistake my curiosity for disdain, friends; I actually think these are SO COOL.
Let’s start easy and say they are shorts. But, friends, they’re shorts with a very low inseam/a very high rise. So either you wear them pulled up SUPER high (I am not against this type of subversive fashion statement) or you wear them at the waist with the crotch at the knees.
Then there are all the random pockets. This single patch pocket is on the thigh of the right leg.
This lone slit pocket is set on a diagonal on the back of the pants.
And THEN you have this interesting shaping seam at the bottom of each leg in the back, which probably makes them more ballooney. There’s a lot of experimentation going on here, but although these shorts are super weird, you can just tell that they were thoughtfully and purposefully designed. I would love to see these on a human! Actually, sigh, I would just like to see a human.
Friends, one of my very favourite dresses is from sustainability brand Hackwith, so I was so pumped to find this top in our shop! This linen shirt is their Double V Top, which is a staple in their inventory.
I love the grey and white!
I had it on our mannequin for a while….and then maybe I talked to the mannequin a bit….and then maybe me and the mannequin made a pact to never speak of it again.
You could totally pair it with the weird shorts!
Ooooooo friends, quick, close your eyes and carefully stand up and go to the bathroom (wash your hands!) because you might pee your [sweat] pants. Ready now to look at the Poppy Barley iconic Two Point Five Ankle Boot…in green!!
I KNOW!!! It’s totally fine if you need to get up and go pee again; this is really that exciting!
These boots have a 2.5 inch heel, V shaped upper cut and side zipper.
Did I mention that they are such a pretty shade of warm olive green? These are so gorgeous!
Hey, remember a few weeks ago when we saw a fox dress in our backroom? Well, ta-dah!
All the foxes!!!
Get ready for another big surprise! We have gorgeous charcoal grey Fluevogs!
These tall boots are ARD from the Radio Family, which is a very “wearable” family; not too crazy out-there, but still something special. Now, friends, I tried these on for you and they are narrow in the calf (read: I could not get them zipped up). My calves at their widest point are approximately 40 cm in circumference, so shop wisely.
The message from the Radio Family is “Tune in, Turn on, Vog out!”. Always a pleasure!
Thanks Johnny Fluevog!
What are you wearing right now, friends? You can just answer that in your head. But let’s say that by some weird global coincidence we are all wearing our leisure wear, wouldn’t it be nice to have some Eileen Fisher leisure wear?
These stretchy pants are also charcoal grey and made of a rayon-mix knit, so I am hesitatnt to call them leggings because I think they can stand alone (see what I did there?) as pants.
Wear them with your Hackwith shirt!
I was going to make a joke about how I am dying for this adorable vintagey leather satchel, but now I’m thinking maybe I shouldn’t use “dying” in such a glib way (this pandemic sucks the fun out of everything!), so just know that while my primary emotion upon discovering this purse is EXTREME EXCITEMENT followed by a nagging feeling -that I can only assume is logic- that there is something I am supposed to remember before I get carried away with excitement over handbags, but a rebellious -almost manic- feeling quickly takes over before I can clearly investigate the logic feeling and as I float above my body I am reminded that I have a sore shoulder and too many purses already and I am filled with an empty longing and sense of existential ennui but I AM NOT DYING.
The leather is gorgeous and that brass push-lock is solid (and makes a satisfying click sound!)
Annnnnnnnnnnndddddd it can fit your mom-wallet, multiple reusable bags, sunglasses, gum, medicine pouch with 3 types of migraine drugs plus band-aids, your key fob with the keys to every house and every shed in the back yard of every house you have ever lived in (in case you forgot something there in 1997 and you need to go back and get it) and, of course, your knitting project. No lipstick in a special antique lipstick case in there this time, friends, because ain’t no lipstick in the pandemic. Only nail polish.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, friends!!!!!! Mustard yellow!! On a micro-pleated skirt! A micro pleated skirt from Loft 82!!!!!!
Pleats!!!
Wear it with the awesome green Poppy Barley boots! How cool do these look together?!
And while we are on the subject of Loft 82/Noul/Oak + Fort, how about a lovely subdued slate knit dress? This one even has some wool in it, so it is perfect for the April winter weather.
Wear with the Fluevogs for drama!
Or wear with the green Poppy Barleys for a more casual look.
Suddenly Brunette The Label is a big part of of my life!
This comfy top is so soft and I love that dusty pink!
Wear it with the weird shorts!
Here’s what I dug out of the men’s section this week! This vest is also wool!
So classic!
Wear it with the Oak + Fort dress!
Red Pony is still closed, but hanging in there. The City inspector even came by to check! But I am really starting to get the hang of the online shop, so check it out often as I try to add lots to it every day. It’s free delivery in Edmonton, which is so much fun for me because I love connecting with you in this small way (even if I’m just dropping it off on your doorstep and don’t even see you, I still feel like we are somehow working as team!), and fun for Rod because he likes driving around the city (did you know that there are people living on the other side of the river? They have, like, houses and coffee shops and stuff over there) (JK I love you!) and fun for our girls because it often involves a stop at Dairy Queen (they have DQs on the other side of the river too! With the same menus as the ones on the South Side!). Our youngest has started solicitously asking “Are we doing deliveries tonight?”. Haha
Thanks so much to all of you for supporting the shop with your online orders during this difficult time. All the items from the blog this week (plus lots more!) are up in the online shop, and like last week I am giving you a head start before the Instagram people. I can only hold them off until this evening before they figure it out, so get over there and snatch up your faves! Stay safe, wash your hands and I’ll see you 3 meters away from your doorstep with your parcel!
