Friends, long-time followers of the blog know that I am a super laid-back person who adapts well to change and never ever freaks out, because, you know, I’m all mellow and NOT AT ALL NEUROTIC, INTENSE AND PRONE TO EMOTIONAL FREAK OUTS. I’m not, I AM NOT. Out of respect to some of you who -UNLIKE ME, because remember I’m all laid-back and chill I’M CHILL- respond best to routine and do well with a predictable and dependable schedule of weekly events it is my pleasure to bring you your weekly blog as if everything is normal!
So, you know how for the past few weeks I’ve been saying that the backroom was packed? I had actually been stressed and slightly embarrassed at having fallen behind in output, but it turns out that I could not have planned it better! We had to close our doors last week, like most local independent businesses, but we have so much stock from the back (plus everything on the sales floor) that the blog will not suffer at all!
Plllllluuuuuuuuuuusssssss, we created a Red Pony Online Shop (just click the “shop online” tab above) so you can scoop up your favourites from the blog from the comfort of your sweatpants with the piece of macaroni stuck to them. You know, your macaroni pants. As a special treat for you, friends, I will link the shop links to the blog items and will give you a head start to snatch them up before I let the Instagram followers know they’re online. Mwahahaha! It’s between us…..because they won’t be reading this!
Ok, enough talkie-talk, let’s check out the clothes!
Friends, the geekiness of this knit Oak + Fort top is killing me! I’m kinda obsessed this one, but not sure I’m cool enough to pull it off. That colour! Those stripes! The collar!
And another one from Oak + Fort in this same mysterious colour palette.
This one is nice and boxy.
[Actually, friends, we need to pause here to discuss the stick thing. So, I had been using a stick with a screw in it (seriously) to help show you the shape of some of the clothes. Its original purpose was to open the window high above the door, but it turns out a stick with a drywall screw in it is surprisingly useful. So useful, in fact, that on the last day we were open a couple of dudes stole it! Now all I have to help show you clothes is a clunky old broom handle with no helpful drywall screw in it. Sorry!]
I don’t know if you can see this slit thing in the front, but I didn’t know if that was a design element or…..
….is the shirt is actually supposed to do this?
Put down your drink or cheeto, friends, because you are about to choke! I don’t know where these are from, but there’s a good chance that they have come right out of Nadia Vulvokov’s closet!
Check out that awesome vintage silhouette and the elastic expander!
I have been referring to these as “ostrich shoes” in my head because of those rivets, but now I’m wondering is they are too uniform to be ostrich? These are definitely leather, though, and those rivets might be an added feature. I love them either way!
I’m not sure if I captured the shape well, but the toes on these beauties are rounded.
Sweet birthday baby!
Suddenly we seem to have been blessed with loads from local fave Sabrina Butterfly!
These corduroy-esque pants feature her signature wide, comfy waistband!
Because I have a compulsive need to cuff everything, I would wear these cuffed and cropped!
Ok, I’m done! This outfit is ALL THE THINGS! Wear with the Russian Doll ostrich shoes!
Here’s where I really get on board with the theory that that Oak + Fort top is a front-tie shirt. What a great way to show off that high waist!
Ooooooooooorrrr, you could wear those outfits with these Camper boots!
Weeeeeeeeeeeee, friends, these are the Peu boots! A few weeks ago we saw their cousins with the lacing in the back.
Those laces are stretchy and there is a side zipper too.
They are sooooooo adorable! Remember when I said I think Campers are elfish? Would an elf wear these OR WHAT?
Ooooooo, remember when we got a peak at these geeky shorts in the back room last week? Now that the whole shop is a back room we can have access to anything we want to look at! These awkward length fuschia shorts do not disappoint, that’s for sure!
THOSE PLEATS!
Does this work, or is it two different kinds of geekery?
Ah! This vintage lilac velvet top should do the trick, though!
Right?!
There we go! Just add those white Reeboks from last week!
And also this!
Although your eyeballs haven’t processed natural light for about 2 weeks, they do not deceive you, friends; this is the Matt & Nat Fabi backpack!
Expandable zippered gussets at the top so you can stash all the things you are irrationally afraid of running out of during isolation. For me it’s butter. Yes, I am afraid of a butter shortage. But, friends, this DID happen once a few years ago, and it was rough for me, so it’s actually a valid fear. I’m also afraid of running out of yarn for knitting. (Luckily The Fibre Nook ships, so I’m covered!)
Lots of room in there for your mom-wallet, knitting project and butter stash!
And a pocket in the back which I assume is for your circular needles.
But wait. Did someone say “mom-wallet”? We happen to have one that matches the backpack! Look how huge it is! It will hold ALL YOUR WALLET THINGS!
Friends, look at all the slots for all the cards!
And a whole other zippered compartment! I forgot to look inside this one, friends, but now I wonder if there were even more slots for cards in there!
From one of our Canadian faves (with one of my ultimate favourite names), Gentle Fawn!
This is a wide-leg romper, and it’s made from tencel (that’s good, you want that).
Gah, major moment of honesty here, friends: up until *this very moment* when I went to link Eva Franco’s site to support her as a great independent Canadian designer, I believed that she was a great independent Canadian designer……BUT SHE IS NOT. I have no idea why I was so convinced that she was Canadian that I scoured her site looking for the Montreal angle, but there is none because she has never lived in Montreal or anywhere in Canada at all! I’m so embarrassed! Anyways, this Eva Franco top is still cute (but somehow I think it would be cuter if it was Canadian?)!
Here, let’s add it with a local great independent Canadian designer!
Men’s section! “Internet Explorer”! Get it?
Hilarious, and also my mood all the time these days!
So when you purchase something online from us, you can have it shipped ($15 shipping) or if you live in Edmonton we will deliver it free of charge! I make sure there is no physical contact at drop-off so we all stay as healthy as possible. Sometimes we arrange to leave it on your porch or in your planter, which is fun because it makes me feel like we are all in this together. Like, it’s perfectly natural for me to leave a parcel in a stranger’s recycling bin! And those of you that I have waved to from from the safety of 3 meters while I’m running away has made me feel so happy and connected to my Red Pony friends. At every drop off where I have seen the person I’ve thought “that’s going to look so good on them!”.
So that’s it for this week, friends! I’m trying to fill the online shop everyday, so check back often to see all the cool stuff, and stay safe!
