Friends, we are all going to die…OF THE CUTENESS OF ALL THE CLOTHES! (See what I did there?!) That’s right, the cure for anything is fun clothing and red wine!
Ok friends, before we dive in I have to make an announcement for the friends who don’t read the blog all the way to the end (you know who you are!) and those who only look at the pictures (who are not even reading these words, so, um, ok, keep being you!): we have modified our store hours, so Red Pony is now open Thursday, Friday and Saturday 12-6. Come for a visit and breath in those sweet Clorox fumes!
UPDATE: Red Pony is temporarily closed.
Cast your minds back, friends, to a whole 2 weeks ago when everything was different; that’s when we peaked this beautiful Cinder+Smoke shirt in the backroom! Is your heart overflowing with joy at seeing it in all it’s glory and good lighting now?!
This shirt is bananas! (See what I did there?!)
(Friends, if you are able to safely and cautiously leave your house, you can support local fave Cinder+Smoke over on 124 at Arturo Denim Co!)
Shaney -who you used to see at Red Pony on Tuesdays and Wednesdays- and I have been waiting very patiently for this incredible pair of Levi’s acid wash jeans to hit the floor!
Friends, Frrrrrrrrrrrrrrriends! You can wear the Cinder+Smoke top and the Levi’s jeans together!
But you’ll need some shoes to go with the outfit, and I’m sure you are thinking the same thing I’m thinking: this outfit needs a burgundy, velvet sneaker. I mean, obviously.
Velvet shoes with an embroidery of a black bear wearing a floral crown and carrying a woven basket filled with with fresh clippings….is the new black.
Friends, these are so cute and so wearable I just can’t even!
This black floral bomber looks like a jacket, but the material is light (almost transparent) so it wears more like a top than an outside coat. It is so elegant and grown-up!
You can kind of see the sheer of this material, but what I was trying to show was the lovely floral on black. This is perfect for the in-between season!
So that was a bit of breather between cuuuuuuuuute things, but I’m sure you’re ready for this one now!
Fun OR WHAT?! Wear it with the jeans and the cool floral jacket!
What’s that you say? You want MORE cats? OK!
Caaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttssssss!
Wear it with, you guessed it, those jeans! And the velvet sneakers!
But, ok, if you are looking for something that pushes the envelope a bit more, you might prefer these Reeboks sneakers that are, well, straight out of my junior high school nightmares!
Adorable, right? Wear with ALL the outfits!
Now, friends, a moment of honesty between glasses of wine: as a very old vampire who actually wore acid washed jeans and Reebok sneakers the first time around, they are not for me now. Eco-conscious Everlane, however -with it’s sensible wide-leg pants- is more my speed!
And I would totally wear them with the Cinder+Smoke banana shirt….
…..and the cat shirt!!
Put your glass of wine down, friends, because I’m issuing a Teeny Tiny Alert!
Yes, friends, peapod earrings!!! Can you see the teeny-tiny pearl “peas”??
This, friends, THIS is what might kill me! But fear not, these are NOT contagious, though, because only one person can have these at a time! (See what I did there?!)
And I found this great Hawaiian shirt from Canadian super star Naked & Famous in our men’s section!
I thought you could tie it up and wear it with the Everlane pants! Oh, ok, go ahead and wear the Reeboks with it too….and the pea pod earrings!
But today’s special treat is actually this beautiful vintage silk scarf! You can wear it tied around your neck, or around your ponytail!
Here is the print; it is soooooooooo 80s, friends!
Hey, I remembered to choose something from the sales rack for you this time! Friends, I can’t believe this is 50% off now'; this coat is so awesome!
Lots of seasonal wear still left in this one!
Friends, you may be getting tired of hearing it (but you’re not, right?), but the Red Pony backroom is BURSTING with more cool stuff! Check it out:
A fox dress (to go with your banana shirt and velvet sneakers!)….
….vintage pleated fuchsia shorts (to go with your Reeboks!)….
….and a Preloved dress (I think)!
Since we have limited hours this week, we won’t be doing holds (but we will accept payment by phone), so come and get your favourites right at noon on Thursday!
And, hey, you’ve probably heard the suggestions about supporting local independent businesses in these tough times by buying gift cards. DEFINITELY DO THAT, but you can also support locals in the cozy comfort of your quarantine nest through social media by, let’s say, tagging and sharing your outfit from Red Pony, that video of you and your kid playing guitar together after your skype guitar lesson from Acoustic Music Shop, your favourite camo overalls from Bamboo Ballroom, your Harry Potter pin collection from Majesty and Friends, the book you are reading from Audrey’s Books, your homebrew from Anvil Coffee House, your current knitting project from The Fibre Nook (knit with locally dyed yarn from Allison Barnes), your glowing skin after a self-care face-mask from Lux Beauty….. These great locally-owned businesses offer online shopping, and soon so will Red Pony!
(Sending messages of love and support help too! Small businesses are all run by real humans in your community who are going through some real human things, and small kindnesses go a long way!)
But let me leave you with this little yannicdote. (See what I did there?!) A couple weeks ago it was Family Movie Night at my daughters’ elementary school. I was wearing this hi-low Workhall dress (that looks like a cape IRL! You know I love that!):
I was also wearing a long lab coat/cardigan (you know I love that too!) that was a bit shorter than the dress. After the movie the lights came on in the gym and I helped clean up: folding chairs, sweeping the floor, glaring at the parents who weren’t helping (very constructive, I know), you get the idea. When I finally got home that night and went to get changed I discovered that….the back of my dress had been TUCKED INTO MY UNDERWEAR the whole time!!! This is a mortifying true story, friends! There were multiple witnesses who didn’t tell me (perhaps they were put off by my glaring?). Anyways, as there is no school for a while so it gives me time to regain my dignity/assure everyone forgets this ever happened!
So, friends, to recap one more time: I will be at Red Pony on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 12-6 each day. Come by for a visit and we can discuss cat shirts, our favourite sneakers and the unexpected love and kindness we feel all around us!
