It might be a rambling, one-hour-of-sleep-deprivation-that-actually-lingers-for-2-weeks type of blog this week, friends!
I’m pretty sure we saw this dress in the backroom last week! From one of our very favourite local designers Cinder + Smoke! (Friends, guess what? You know the special evening event we are hosting on March 26th that you have already RSVPed to or that you will RSVP to in 15 seconds? The event where the local designers are going to bring in their past-season/deadstock items for a chance at a new life? Well, Cinder+Smoke is participating! Click here to RSVP!)
Freinds, this print makes me think of vinatge sheets, and you know how much I love that!
So this one you have to see in person. It is a super pale powder blue, and I feel like the photo does not do justice to the stunning colour! This is so beautiful I feel like I have to whisper when I come near it!
The bomber cut and varsity collar make it seem like it should be sporty, but check out how the buttons, cuffs and the body of the jacket are monochrome which, along with the delicate blue, makes it look so elegant and grown-up! White collar shirt and you can wear it to the office!
I almost can’t go on, friends. Leave me and save yourselves! Look at these boots. You’ll never guess.
They’re Frye! FRYE!!! Have you chocked on your diet Coke and maybe accidentally spit a bit of it out onto your screen and now you have to try to subtly wipe it off with your cuff hoping no one noticed? I’m with you!!!
I love the surprises Frye has been springing on us this winter. These little boots are so elflike and adorable. They look so timeless, but with those leather laces (such a nice touch!) they kinda look like they came right out of a Victorian novel! No, wait! You know what else they remind me of? The Poppy Barley oxford, with the flat sole, the soft rounded toe and the 6 hole lace! Right?
Don’t take another sip of your diet Coke yet though, friends. This dress is a beautiful wine coloured crush velvet, and it’s from our friends down the Ave at Workhall!! I KNOW!
Aaaaaaaand, check out the bell sleeves! I feel like they nailed this look, friends, without taking it over the top. It’s like minimalist Stevie Nicks.
The jewellery section has been nuts these days, friends. I almost want to do an entire blog post just about all the cool stiff in there! For today, I bring you these awesome rafi geometric earrings!
The stud is beaded, and check out how one pendant is a thicker weave and the other is a thinner weave. Get ready for all the compliments you’re going to get on these!
Here’s a thing we don’t get to see often, but we love: a Workhall coat!
It has the waist-shaper for that perfect minimalist 80s’ mom look!
I can’t wait to see these pants on a human, friends! These are Lululemon pants, of all things, and they are made of that very light and floaty material.
I love the wide-leg look, and here it’s exaggerated with a built in pleat running down! Plus there’s that big bow on the belt! LOVE!
You can totally wear them with the Workhall coat and still be good for the office!
Time to explore a bag, friends! This is a Pixie Mood bucket bag. Pixie Mood is like Matt & Nat’s cousin: Canadian, vegan materials only and quirky designs.
The outer here looks like beautiful pebbled leather…..and I am a sucker for tassels, friends!
Now, check out how big the main compartment is!! Absolutely without a doubt will carry your mom-wallet and MORE THAN ONE kitting project, in case you find yourself unexpectedly in a situation where you need to knit, but your current project is close to being finished and you MIGHT RUN OUT OF KNITTING and have to sit quietly alone with your thoughts, which is obviously unacceptable, so you always carry at least two knitting projects in your adorable baby-blue Pixie Mood purse. Yup.
And it just so happens that this bag also has a special pouch that attaches inside the bag! Obviously that is a pouch for your knitting tools. Like, friends, I have no idea what a non-knitter would do with this pouch. What the heck is in your bag if you are not a knitter??
AND THEN if you are a very old vampire like myself who currently cannot wear a shoulder or cross-body purse because half your body is turning to dust from being immortal for so long, this purse conveniently (and not awkwardly, like some convertibles) converts to a hand-carry!
Vintage treat alert! I looked for a union label for you, but couldn’t find one although it is made in Canada and definitely vintage. So no union label would mean late 70s-80s. (Pffffttt, not an expert!)?
You know what? You are going to have to come in to visit this one in real life too, friends, because the leather is all soft and buttery, and that tan colour is so cool!
And over on the sales rack look what I found masquerading as some sort of casual sport shirt (or something, I don’t know what sports is)….an Oak + Fort shirt!
Friends, you could wear this!
So, friends, remember how Kennedy left us to do fashion things in London? And then Shaney joined us at the shop a couple of days a week? Welllllll, guess who else is going to London?!
Yup, this girl! That’s right, LONDON WANTS HER!! (And I KNOW HER!) It’s obvious to me now that if you want to go to London, your first stop should be at Red Pony! So if you love Red Pony and wish you could spend more time here (like, say, around 15 hours a week) and talk fashion things, send me an email or DM telling me why you would be a good fit. (Employment in the UK is not guaranteed, though! Haha!)
As for the event from Sessa Wearables at Red Pony on March 26, we have the list of local designers who are participating!
Put down the diet Coke! Cinder + Smoke, Eve + Enoch, Hundr Vidar, Luxx RTW, Stanley Carroll, Suka Clothing and, of course, Sessa Wearables will be bringing their deadstock (items remaining from previous seasons), seconds (items that didn’t quite work out post production, think misprints on a silk-screen…basically, even more unique!) and samples (the first version of a design that may or may not have been picked up for the season). I am soooo excited for this, friends, since this has never been done before! We’ll be giving 10% off on Red Pony stock if you happen to stumble on something from us too. RSVP here!
And friends, you have to RSVP because there is a door prize that is going to be killer! Tressa from Sessa Wearables has asked each designer to create a reusable shopping bag constructed from left-over fabrics in their studios (sustainability gold star!). But when Tressa was describing these bags to me, I realized these are not your usual reusable bags; there is some serious thought going into each unique bag, like leather handles and sturdy fabrics, it’s going to be nuts! The winner of the door prize MUST have RSVPed and must be present on the evening, and the door prize is….. ALL THE BAGS! Friends, I can’t figure out an ethical loophole by which I could be eligible for this, so you HAVE to enter so that I may live vicariously through you!
OK, phew, that’s lots of stuff. So, I will be in on Saturday as usual. Come down and we can look through all the jewellery together, you can show me what’s in your non-knitter bag and tell me all about why you want to work here!
