I promise I don’t think of Red Pony as my own personal closet, friends, but sometimes being in the shop is like being on a Pinterest holodeck! You know what I mean, right?
So friends, take a good look at this denim jacket, because I am going to be suggesting you wear it with pretty much everything else on the blog this week! This is just a great stiff, boxy oversized denim coat. Haven’t you been looking for something to put your pins on? You know, like that weird cat pin you have or whatever? This is it!
Oooooooo, look! It’s that Soia & Kyo jacket we saw in the backroom last week! I associate Soia & Kyo with winter coats (because that’s where they bring out their great exaggerated cowls!), but this spring jacket is equally as spacey! Dove grey is, of course, the colour of ALL the clothing on the planet colonies. And because Soia & Kyo gonna Soia & Kyo, check out that great cowl!! It matches the ridges on the nose of your alien best friend on the planet colony -who also wears dove grey- and who, despite ALL MATHEMATICAL PROBABILITIES, looks exactly like a human too. Anyways, cool coat.
Remember when I said it was raining Campers in the shop? Well, here’s another pair!
These ones are from the Peu series, but friends, I have never seen Peu Campers with the laces across the back like this!
The Elf Aesthetic of Camper is what endears them to me. (‘Cause Campers gonna Camper!)
Guess what you’ll be wearing with this Smash + Tess long sleeved romper? The black denim jacket!
OK, wait, one more romper! This one from chez Simons is made to look like a two-piece with the boxy top but then….
….surprise! No fussing, it’s a romper.
You’ve met Shaney who works at Red Pony on Wednesdays and Thursdays, right? If not you should meet her! She has SUPER COOL style, and she loves loafers! So I feel like my eyes have been open to the extreme cool-factor of loafers, and luckily we have LOTS of loafers in the shop!
Wear these with your Smash + Tess romper and your denim jacket!
Ooooooo, friends, here’s our vintage piece to explore this week! This one is also made in Canada, but I searched for the union label on this one and couldn’t find it. This is good, though, because along with the actual shoulder pads in this top, we can date it around the 1980s.
This really is a gorgeous piece, though! The poinsettia (? Maple?) leafs are velvet, and the whole top is beaded with teeny tiny beads!
So you know how I like necklaces with raw stones or metals? This necklace is fascinating to me because I think it’s maybe the exact opposite of that. But don’t get me wrong, I love a complete pendulum swing and I dig this necklace!
Like, what are those woven covered beads doing on a pearl necklace? They are each different and don’t even match each other, yet they are placed symmetrically? It’s confounding and comforting at the same time. But it would look so cool with the blue or black romper!
Ah, friends, this. Just this.
I will never get tired of elbow patches on jackets. I love that they are on this jacket, too, because it makes it a bit more casual and wearable.
AND THEN! I mean….know what I mean? I would wear this inside out, I love this print so much!
Like, how fun is this lining?!
Hey, I remembered to scarf this week!
This week: bikes!
(I did not, however, remember to take a picture of a sale section item. Sorry.)
Friends, the back room is still completely packed. A tower of garments actually fell on me! (It’s clothing, no worries, I’m fine and now I smell like clean laundry.) Here’s a peak:
Cinder + Smoke dress…..
…another Soia & Kyo coat….
…. acid washed jeans! Can’t wait to have a good look at these!…
……MORE Cinder+Smoke (bananas!! Too cute!)….
……aaaaaaand an entire Rubbermaid filled with Matt & Nat and Coach purses.
Actually friends I probably took as many pics of the stuff in the backroom as I did for the main blog! There is something even more thrilling about seeing it there in the back, just waiting to be discovered.
We are going to have a super cool event at the end of March! Mark your calendars for March 26th, because this is happening:
Local designer Tressa from Sessa Wearables had this great idea for a unique sustainability event: gather a group of local designers’ end of season items, samples, remainders, deadstock, misprints etc. and give them one more shot at a new life. As it happens, that’s what we do at Red Pony! Ta-dah! This type of sale has never been done, and I am so excited to be able support local designers in sustainability this way! We should have a final list of the participating designers next week, and you are going to pee your pants! (I know where you can get new pants, though!) It will be an RSVP event, so keep your eyes on our Facebook, Instagram or our website next week.
This week I am in Red Pony on Friday and Saturday so be sure to come by and we can talk about all the times linings have been the best part of a garment, the slow realization that loafers go with everything and how many times I have straight up cried when past characters pop up on Picard!
