Friends, it’s so fun in the shop these days because we are overflowing with new stuff!
I think we may as well dive in with our special treat for the week; this week it’s a Stella McCartney for Adidas hoodie!
Cute, right? And before you start to think maybe it is nothing special and a bit under designed for what you were expecting, well it turns out that the sleeves are big bat wing sleeves!
We saw this in the back room last week, and it is now on the sales floor! Yes, it’s a top from our beloved departed Nokomis.
Just has a simple feather print on the shoulder.
And this keyhole cut-out on the front. Friends, this cut-out trigger a memory in me….a have the dress version of this shirt!
So, you know how I have been on a very restricted purse-diet? It’s not impossible that I may have, um, strayed from that diet a few times. However, the Purse Godesses were angered that I broke my oath and they cursed me with some sort of shoulder problem blah blah blah and I can’t really do cross-body bags anymore or else, you know, this bright yellow Kate Spade purse would be MINE.
Top handle and a very satisfying push button lock! Click!
Will fit your huge Mom Wallet, car keys bike-lock keys house keys house-you-haven’t-lived-in-for-18-years keys, first-aid/medicine pouch, reusable Baggu bags, hand cream, 2 lipsticks in a vintage lipstick case and last, but certainly not least, your knitting project.
Oooooooooo, vintage alert! How gorgeous is this coat, friends? This is faux fur and faux leather, but it does not have a cheap look that some faux products nowadays sometime have. The dramatic collar and the flare in the lower body give it an incredible silhouette, almost like a swing coat. But this one is more, um, rugged than a swing coat. You need to see it in real life!
How vintage is it? Well, check out the actual date tag! October 21, 1975 yo!
And, as we discussed way back in November, if it’s vintage from Canada always look for the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union label. I almost gave up trying to find it in this one, but then there it was tightly sewn into a hem! That round yellow splotch that looks like a flag is the bilingual ILGWU label and tells us this garment was made by a worker who was paid a living wage and worked in suitable conditions for the time (possibly while smoking, haha). This is a great little Easter egg for those of us who love vintage!
Check this one out, it’s Oak + Fort! I am loving this little game we have going with Oak + Fort when they make something that doesn’t look like their usual minimalist aesthetic and then, SURPRISE, it’s Oak + Fort! There is something sophisticated about this lace dress; I think it’s the elegant sleeve length and high neckline.
And speaking of something you think is a thing but it’s actually an different thing than you thought: this totally 90s skirt is actually an American Apparel skirt! Friends, they have really nailed it here. That length, the print, those buttons down the front = I totally wore this skirt in the 90s! (Just kidding, I wasn’t even born in the 90s.) (Bahahaha, just kidding for real. I totally had a skirt like this.)
This skirt has pockets!
And remember last week when I said it was raining campers in the shop? Seriously, friends, we have 3 pairs and counting. But for today I’m sharing the brown, calf-height classic spiral boot!
(I have these in black!) These ones are a dark, chocolate brown (not sure if that is coming through on your screams).
When I wear mine, people always comment that it’s great flat boot.
We’re going to explore this pretty, breezy embroidered top, friends.
Just so pretty! And look closely at the centre of the embroidered flower….
….see how it is the same patterned material that trims the cuff to tie it together?
That patterned material is also in the lining; such great attention to detail in the design!
The one we have been waiting for!
For those of you who are not fascinated by the minutia of American politics like I am, the boiled down story is a [cisgender woman] Senator was told she could not continue speaking in the Senate, and to admonish her further a [cisgender man] Senator made the patronizing comment that despite having been warned to shut-up, “nevertheless, she persisted”. And just like that, it was re-appropriated into a statement of empowerment! (And Senator Elizabeth Warren, who persisted, is running for president now!)
Wear with the green American Apparel skirt! I would fully tuck the shirt in all around and shaped it a bit boxy, or I would swoosh it into a tight knot on the side. I would totally wear the Camper boots with this outfit too!
And it occurred to me you could for sure wear it under that Stella McCartney hoodie too!
Look at the great top I pulled from the men’s section this week!
These are little flags, right?
And this beauty from the 50% off section!
The backroom is still packed, there’s just so much good stuff coming in NON STOP! Here’s a peek…..
….dove grey Soia & Kyo jacket….
…..back pack that has 2 more purses inside!….
….vintage men’s cowboy shirt!
Friends, I need a favour: I had a problem with my Very Grown-Up and Professional Camera (cough-cough my phone that I keep dropping), so when you come in on Saturday could you please let me know if the resolution on the pics is uniform throughout, or if some are reading off (or you just don’t see a difference and I have exposed my insecurity for nothing!). We could also talk about purse issues, how fun it is to find a vintage union label and how you are doing these days!
