So much new stuff hit the floor this week, friends, and we have loads of great Canadian brands to discuss, plus some super cool vintage to explore. Turn off your brain and let’s jump in!
Friends, love how subtle this sheath dress is for Desigual! I know many people love the bold print that we usually see on Desigual, but it’s a treat finding the unexpected toned-down designs.
But, keeping it Desigual with a little bit of colour and quirkiness: the speckled ombré and quilted texture across the bottom totally work here!
And check out the tiny adorable zipper in the back. Cute!
Check the time, friends, because I think it’s Vintage O’clock! (This sounded very funny in my head.) This one is a faux-fir, vintage a-line coat. For me the light-caramel colour is what drew me to it more than the soft furriness.
I like that there are not big lapels on this one. I think a dramatic detail like that would have taken away from the colour, and probably made it a bit too costume-y and harder to wear.
And for the record, I DO ALSO like the soft fuzzines! I’m not a monster.
And more vintage! Friends, how can you not smile -or possibly chuckle loudly to yourself- when I tell you that this belt is made in Canada from….Lady Footlocker! Is it just me, or does that conjure up thoughts of slouchy socks and chunky running shoes? (Ha, just realized that I just described an outfit that our departed Kennedy would wear, like, every day!)
I love a floral-on-white, and there is just something in general about a white belt that feels so retro to me!
More Canadian stuff, but this time it is not vintage and it comes from Montreal’s Stay Home Club. Pfffffffttt, friends, you know I am adding this to list of favourite names for brands (along with Gentle Fawn and Allison Wonderland). (Both also Canadian, how cool is that?). Stay Home Club leans hard into the self deprecation and the proudly lets our inner mediocrity shine!
(Remember this patterned pink lettering for later, k?)
And from a more serious Canadian brand, Frank and Oak. (Yikes, friends, rough transition from the plucky website of Stay Home Club to Frank & Oak’s no-messing-around-and-no-fun-allowed website. But, you know, whatever we can to acknowledge the Canadian brands.)
But their sweater is really cute, though! The ribbing in the material gives it some structure so that it doesn’t veer too close to sweatshirtness, despite its boxy sweatshirt shape.
Friends, I have examined these pink cropped corduroy pants verrrrrry closely, and I’m pretty sure they are hand made! That just makes them even more cool and for some reason, although the construction is impeccable, adds to the ungainly vibe of these types of pants. In my head I think of this particular style as awkward-adolescent-phase-pants, in that they are made purposefully for adults (obvs) to look like pants that you grew out of too fast in middle-school. Do you see it now?
And the pink, friends, I’m dyinnnnnnnnnngg!
But wait! Check this out! I love the ironic messaging of “Garden Variety” paired with pink cropped corduroys for a look that is obviously fashion forward and very much not “garden variety”.
And then this! Here I like how the colours are dusted by not completely matching, and the top is a bit cropped which looks great with the high waist of the pants! Someone buy these exact outfits! (But only when I’m in the shop so I can see how they work out on a human!)
Friends, I don’t know how to introduce these Doc Martens to you. (Oooooo, just realized they would be perfect with the outfits above!)
They aren’t just regular minimalist white sneakers.
They’re minimalist white sneakers FROM THE FUTURE!
You see, in the future white tennis shoes made by traditional worker-wear companies need to have a shiny silver toe cap. Because.
Now, friends, you know I don’t like to present you with photos of big black blobs unless it is REALLY worth it. This black blog is a dress from our local faves Oak + Fort! (Hey, you could wear the Doc Martens space sneakers with this dress too! Wow, everything is matching this week!)
Hopefully you can see it better here. Now, ordinarily this would be a great minimalist shirt-dress all by itself. BUT, I tried this on for you and left it unbuttoned and then it becomes….a lab-coat! Can you see the look?! SO COOL!
New on my radar, Korinne Vadar is a designer who lovingly hand makes all her garments on Vancouver Island. Friends, I’m so happy to discover someone new! She likes to work with natural and sustainable fabrics, and has a sweet minimalist aesthetic that also seems to come from the future! (Just realized you can also wear this top with the pink pants! Seriously, friends, things be working out this week!)
One of my very favourite tags to see; a human made this garment and filled in the tag with their own hand!
Now settle in, friends, as we explore this adorable vintage brooch!
The top bar is the pin, and the tiny purse is actually a pendant. Kinda like when nurses wear the watch from a pin.
I love the ornate detailing here!
And then, just when you thought it couldn’t get any neater, you discover THIS! WEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
Oooooo, I love a chunky cream scarf!
Look what I found in the men’s section! I love the colour choices here with the pop of orange and yellow!
Friends, I can’t believe this adorable tunic made it to the 50% off section! It’s so cute, and it’s Marimekko!
I’ll be in Friday morning this week and, as always, all day Saturday. Come by to try on all the outfit combos that magically fell into my lap this week! I feel like we haven’t check in for so long, friends, and it’s so important that we support each other in this very difficult season…..it’s hard work keeping up with new episodes of The Bachelor AND Picard each week! (Haha. But also kinda seriously.)
