Friends, I’m so happy to be back and talking about clothes! The store is packed, and the back room is so full that I have to perch my purse on a precarious pile of boxes when I come in!
I was so excited when I saw this skirt, which has nothing and/or everything to do with the fact that I have 2 skirts like it already. BUT, as I like to tell you when you come into the shop: it’s good to know your style and what you like! For this skirt the vintage shape is all the things! It’s the right amount of poofy with the right length and lining for extra swooshing while you move around in it!
But that colourful print on that stark white is stunning! I was putting this one on the mannequin and playing with outfits, and the colour choices here are actually quite uncommon; red, green, blue and purples. Together the whole thing doesn’t actually read as super feminine to me (which is a great contrast with the ultra traditional shape). Even with the red in there, the colours are quite cool, and, like I said, there is something decidedly stark about the white background. But, as I discovered, because of the colours here it actually can go with many different variations of tops and footwear, which is great as sometimes this type of skirt can be a bit of a one-trick pony.
Friends, this dress is not getting enough attention. I think on the hanger it looks a little, um, hang-y, but it is worth taking a second to check it out. The crew neck gives it a bit more of a casual feel (and crew necklines are creeping up to second place for my favourite necklines, after boat neck, obvs). And that asymmetrical hem!
The dress is lined, but check out those meshy cut-outs! AND THE GOLD!! Now I don’t know how it’s coming across your screen, but I think this lavender is also a cool lavender, like the colours in the skirt above.
Ooooooooo, frrrrrrrrriends, guess what these are? Yes, yes, yes, Frye boots!!
I love this soft dove grey colour! To me when I think of Frye I think of solid construction and materials, which usually means a heavy and dominating piece of footwear. But this colour makes this boot seem a lot more feminine to me, and, in a certain way, more wearable.
So this is the latest in Frye syle: the exposed ankle.
Frye Frye.
The pointed toe is also part of their new direction on their dressy boots. Sure thing, Frye, keep being you!
(Gah! I forgot to get a picture of the sole! One of my favourite parts of Frye boots! Sorry friends, but even without seeing it I’m calling it: standard Frye solid leather sole!)
Weeeeeee, soft, plushy muppet fur! I am LOVING these coats this year!
Check out the excellent contemporary design choice on the collar:
Friends, this necklace has been calling out to me. Although there is a lot going on, in a certain way it is reading as modern minimalist to me. Maybe it’s pairing the white with the gold? I love that!
Isn’t this so pretty?!
Well, well, well. I hope you are sitting comfortably, friends, because we are going to have a long talk about these Doc Martens boots. These are limited edition boots, with unique features like the ribbon laces and distressed leather finish.
It also has, gulp……pink grommets and stitching!! BUT WAIT! Don’t die yet, there’s more!
Ok, take a few breaths and get ready because these boots are also convertible! You can -and I encourage this- fold the tops down to expose the lining and re-lace the ribbon laces through the grommets (which are aligned to allow this, natch).
This way the gorgeous lining becomes the star of the show!
There’s a fastener in the back as well to keep the fold in place, and also adds a bit on edginess and hardware to the otherwise very girly look.
BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE! (Seriously friends, these boots are so awesome!) These boots come with alternate pink ribbon laces (!!!!!!!!!!) to replace the black ones justincase you need to have even more pink on your very special Doc Martens -which I encourage, but was myself too lazy to do.
And in the men’s section there is a super good score: a simple, black John Elliot hoodie! Get it before it’s gone!
Friends, I am wrapping it up here as I am not feeling well. Sorry! But first, let me tell you that we had a very lovely family holiday last week, and I met Tinkerbell!
Friends, I did alot of research before our trip; I read all the parenting blogs, talked with specialists and learned all the hacks before going to Disneyland. However, in all my planning and mental preparations for remaining calm in line-ups and making sure everyone stays hydrated, I forgot to plan for my anxieties about the dark, unexpected blaring sounds and unanticipated big drops…..which came screaming back at me when we got on our first ride which was, yes, in the dark, very loud and may or may not have had sudden big drops -I wouldn’t know because my eyes were closed and I was concentrating on imagining I was in a calm, sunny meadow with adorable woodland creatures. After that I happily spent the rest of the visit on the merry-go-round and in teacups with my youngest!
Meanwhile, my eldest was doing this:
After a couple of wild days ridding the merry-go-round and teacups -but drawing the line at Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride; too exciting- we spent the rest of the holiday swimming, reading and knitting.
I will be in the shop on Saturday, and it feels like I have been away so for so long! I can’t wait to catch up with you and talk sustainable fashion, colour pallets and, if you want, I can share all my Anxious Person’s Tips for Surviving Disneyland!
