Friends, we are going to have so much fun this week!
Now, I have weird feelings about things that look like they are meant for “outdoorsey” type stuff, as I think they are a gateway to more extreme things like camping or maybe some sort of sports activity. But these boots are so beautiful AND handmade in Canada that I thought it was safe to share them with you. They are even fuzzy on the inside!
OK, at first you’re thinking “oooooo a cape!” And then you’re thinking “ooooo a hoodie” and then you’re thinking “I love me a hoodie-cape!” (Look closely at those double buttons down the front, friends, they will be important for later!)
And then in order to get a picture (for your beloved blog readers) of the beautiful and unexpected floral lining you undo some buttons and think “wait a minute, does this cape come off?!”
And then TA-DAH! It does come off!! Now go back to the first picture and look again at how cool those double buttons down the front were. This thing is sooooo cool!
How is this belt pretty AND edgy at the same time, friends?
I love that whimsical print, but also the way the 2 different types of leather match up!
BUT WAIT! They’ve also included a secret pocket!! Friends, I don’t think we talk enough about secret pockets and I think we should add this to a list of some sort. Like, every dress should have pockets and all belts should have a secret pocket!
OK, this will be fun, I promise. I love this colour of bright red, but this otherwise looks like a very boring sport-type garment that zzzzzzzzzzzzz
But then -click-click-click when I matched up all the buttons and folds, it turned into this INCEREDIBLE coat!
With a very pretty, totally *not sporty zzzzzzzzz* bow tied on the side!
This bag might also fly under the radar, but it should not. This is a bag is from Bauxo (who are local-ish? I think one of the 2 Canadians is from Edmonton, but I’m not too sure and I could research it but also zzzzzzzzz).
This bag jumped out at me with that slim, minimalist leather strap over closure (a small design detail, but one that signals that this is more elevate and current than Just Another Tote), but also because I love batik fabrics!
And this bag is surprisingly huge! It will fit your mom-wallet and knitting project and the three apples you have to carry around with you everywhere now because you have started this whole not-eating-sugar-and-listening-to-your-body garbage and you wonder if you will ever be able to eat a blizzard again or feel true happiness.
OK, friends, this is the Trust Me part of the blog. I have seen a couple people try on these Dagg and Stacey pants, and they look incredible on EVERYONE.
And now we are going to have a loooooooooong talk about these Poppy Barley shoes. Put your thinking cap on and grab the protractor. These Poppy Barely’s were bought at a sample sale, but they are stamped with 2 different size-stamps. One says 6, one says 6.5.
But they are exactly the same size!! Or are they?
Now, like you I am just a few credits short of my engineering degree (about 120 credits short), but what I learned in engineering is that we can solve this by placing the shoes on a sheet of paper side by each to mark the length and then measure them using the sophisticated engineering technology embedded in my wrist-ruler. Professional use only.
The left shoe comes in at 209mm and the right shoe comes in at 212 mm. That a pretty much falls into my margin of error of, which is about 1 cm to 21cm. So the mystery lives on: are these shoes actually 2 different sizes and IF NOT which size are they?! ARRRRRGGG!
So, you know how Alex worked as a counselor for at-risk teens in the school system (and with actual institutionalized murderers before that!!! Eeeek!) before coming to work at fairly-low-stakes Red Pony? Well, the other day she was talking with a former colleague who shared how stressful things were at work these days with December already being a difficult mental-health month in general, plus the pandemic was making things MUCH more intense than other years and everyone is starting to crack. After 20 minutes the colleague stopped and was all “I’m sorry. I just needed to vent. How are things at your work?”. Alex took a deep breathe and replied “Yeah, actually it’s pretty rough at my work too… It’s so stressful sometimes Yannick uses English words like periwinkle or pleats and I have to idea what she means”. Pffffffttttt, Alex’s sense of humour is so dry, friends!
So, here’s what’s coming up at the shop: usually we are closed Mondays to Wednesdays, but next week (Dec 21-23) we will be open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 12-6 AND we will be having our favourite sale: spend $100 get a $25 gift card! (The sale will be online as well!) After that we will be closed from Dec 23-Jan 2 (although it wouldn’t hurt to check the online store on boxing day), so be sure to come in next week to get everything you have been wishing for and stock up on the sweet Red Pony Energy!
Alex will be in this week on Thursday and Friday, and I will be in on Friday and Saturday and then we will BOTH be in on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday for the sale, which means lots of EXTRA goofiness!
