I have to number the blogs so that the software can distinguish them, but I have no idea what number we are actually on, friends! 204 seems like alot of commitment for someone as, um, productivity-challenged as myself. Anyways, clothes!
I know I say it every time, but there was a time when Anne-Marie Chagnon wasn’t in my life and I deeply fear that maybe she WAS in my life but I didn’t know her work and maybe glossed right over her super original designs! Luckily, we seem to be getting a lot of her stuff in the shop these days!
I love the organic, uneven look of the hammered-silver needle-eye pieces.
Generally I love green in fashion, but I ESPESCIALLY love green in the form of jujubes! Ha! But really, these stones have a soft bubbly look to them that is such a nice contrast with the industrial look of the hammered-silver pieces.
Friends, this jacket was trying to hide out acting like it was an ordinary jacket when in fact it’s an Eve Gravel jacket! I was drawn to this jacket at first simply because of it’s adorable and precise A-line cropped cut.
But also the details like the oversized buttons and the black piping. Black on brown is bold move without going over the top!
And check out the gorgeous purple lining!
You know I have a complex relationship with pants, but I also love things that are weird….like these little pants from sustainability brand Kowtow. Now, these are not just regular cropped pants; these ones are built for maximum awkwardness with the built-in pleats and then a slight tuck at bottom to make them billow out and then taper just a touch, so you look like a kid who is simultaneously wearing clothing that is too big AND that you have outgrown. But I love this look! Wear it with a cropped jacket like the Eve Gravel and, you’ll have to trust me now, white socks and some sort of clunky oxford. Seriously, take a deep breath and picture it…..SO COOL, right?!
Oops, I should have given you a pants-peeing alert because…..we have Nokomis in the shop! Bathroom break RIGHT NOW! This is a Nokomis purse, and I assume it is made out of reclaimed materials which therefore means it is totally unique (as if having a Nokomis purse isn’t great already)!
I love the fabric (um, orange and yellow print identical to the wallpaper in that room in our basement that we said we would renovate when we moved in 21 years ago and we still haven’t gotten around to it, YES) and the patina on the leather -and that colour!- is incredible.
Can it fit your mom-wallet and your knitting? I mean, yes, but I was too lazy to take all that stuff out of my Mandalorian-utility-belt of a giant backpack that I call a purse to take a pic because then I have to put it all away after and I pffftt zzzzzzzz.
(If you are a long time reader of the blog, then you are probably my mom. Ha! Just kidding…my mom doesn’t read the blog. If you are a long time reader of the blog then you know that with Nokomis in Red Pony, as with Smoking Lily in Red Pony, there is never only one. *Mysterious music what could it possibly be*)
Ooooooo, a pretty silk change purse in canary yellow! In the shape of a rose! Awwwwwww!
Contrasting lining! My favourite!
This awesome vintage dress was pretty boring on the hanger, but is AMAZING on the mannequin! The good news is that the stretchy spandexey fabric is super super thick and springy!
The highlight here is, of course, the sequined sleeves:
But the BIG thing that I wanted to share with you, friends, is the union label! BUT this is even more of a special find because this union label is a US union label! I have never seen one before! Note that it says “Made in USA”, obs, but also that the label is only in English while the Canadian union label -which looks almost identical- is in French and English. The label looks the same because before the textile workers of Canada were able to unionized themselves, they were covered by the US union, which is also pretty cool teamwork.
There’s no tag on these fingerless mittens, but the consignor shared that these were handmade in Canmore. That’s good enough for me!
Check out the super pretty rosettes! Plus, these are fleece-lined!
Friends, it’s my birthday on Friday! I will be turning the big 186! Now, before you run out to get me a gourmet doughnut, I have to share something with you. I have had to cut out sugar. I know that you know that sugar is a HUGE part of my life, almost as huge as watching TV while eating melted chocolate chips from a teacup with a fork. I was a sick for a while (not covid, just regular old vampire burnout stuff) and it was hard to beat, so I have had to accept that an entire bag of all-dressed ripple chips can no longer count as a pre-meal snack, and three chocolate bars form the K & K because I can’t decided which flavour I like best is no longer a sustainable daily habit. Sigh, now I have to eat “real food”. I know, BARF. But, don’t get me wrong; when I shoo my family out of the kitchen after dinner and tell them it’s because I need to clean up the kitchen (I know, I can’t say it with a straight face either!), I do slurp 5 to 10 tablespoons of maple syrup (it counts as “real” food, friends! Don’t take this away from me!). It’s the highlight of my day now. I wanted to share this with you because I LOVELOVELOVE when you bring me treats, but the other day someone lovingly brought an incredible Oreo doughnut (I KNOW) from Destination Doughnuts and I had to *pretend* to eat it while making very loud “yummy” noises because it was such a sweet gesture to bring me this awesome gift and I didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. Now the closest I get to eating an Oreo doughnut is eating an apple. Anyways, the point is, no bismarcks from Empress Bakery/chocolate from K&K/cinnamon bun from Overflow for me for a while, you’ll just have to bring me diamonds instead!
So, yes, I will be in on Friday (MY BRITHDAY!) and Saturday, and Alex will be in on Thursday (she can still eat bismarcks!), so put on a mask and come by for a chat!
