Well, I do love a garment with a story. But what else I love, friends, is a garment that just tells me things! Like, literally. It’s like having a secret with your garment that is really looking out for you!
Like this:
Thanks, Kate Spade Dress, I will look for the silver lining! Or, in this case, the champagne coloured lining in a mod dress!
I’ve always loved this warm golden colour; it brightens everything up without the harshness of metallics.
Oooooooo, a Fashion Blogger Unicorn! We have Everlane in the shop……in ORANGE! So excited about this, friends. This design is so simple (length, elastic waist, t-shirt sleeves, v-neck), yet I feel like we don’t see this very often (except on majical fashion blogs).
So, I love the design (and the COLOUR! Did I mention how I love orange?! And how this dress is ORANGE?!), and, frankly, I love the exclusivity of an Everlane piece (even though we could all order Everlane online if we really wanted to). Everlane’s model is special because they are on-line, and also because they are superstars of ethical fashion: not only are they selective with their manufacturing processes, but they also have a special retail-pricing model whereby they openly state how much a garment costs to make, and how much their minimal markup is. It’s an interesting approach, but I’m still just here for the clothes!
Friends, look at this bag. This bag looks like it wants me to exercise and it is about to be very disappointed! To reach its ultimate goal of getting me to exercise, this bag has laid out some very specific instructions on how to use its multitude of pockets to, presumably, facilitate exercising.
This outside pocket is where your phone goes. In case you are confused by that, they have written “phone” on the inside of the pocket. Useful!
This is precisely a running gym bag. Not for sneaking snacks into the movie theatre, not for stashing your yarn, not for storing all your other handbags so that no one *cough, your spouse, cough cough* knows how many purses you already have. This bag is for running like the wind ONLY. And don’t lose your keys; they go in this interior pocket.
Inside the bag is also where your deoderant goes. Don’t think of putting anything else there, because this is for DEODERANT. Also, don’t forget to bring deoderant.
Or spare socks. This would actually never occur to me, so thanks Lululemon Gym Bag for educating me on the importance of spare socks!
Um, ok, things are getting confusing for me even with detailed instructions. I feel like none of these words are related to each other, and I honestly have NO CLUE what “gels” is. Is that a food, or a sports balm of some sort? Did the editor of this bag’s copy go on holiday and a major typo got by?
Finally, something I understand! They should just put “Chocolate” on all the pockets.
Yay! From one our favourite local makers Cinder+Smoke! I love the flattering shape of this top; it’s just lovely!
And our other favourite local maker, Fridget, who we love equally because we don’t do favourites and Shine Theory is important (thanks Ann Friedman and Aminatou Sow)! Since we just had Fridget on the blog last week, I don’t feel like I need to point out too forcefully that I KNOW HER. Kinda. Well, she smiled at my baby once, and although she never made eye-contact with ME or anything, I’m pretty sure it means we are best friends. Anyhoo, here’s the Fridget take on the Edmonton Crest (do you see the bunny holding the wheat? Cuuuuuuute!). It reminds me of our OTHER equally beloved local faves, Salgado Fenwick, who also have a take on the Edmonton Crest.
How is the colour on your screens, friends? Can you see how not only are the laces purple on these awesome oxfords, but the soles are purple too! And I love the dove grey/purple together! It makes these sensible shoes feel fun and whimsical!
Whoa. That sound you just heard was the sound of Kennedy’s (who you can visit at Red Pony on Mondays and Wednesdays. Or follow her great stories on the Red Pony Instagram) body hitting the floor with a thud because she has passed out over these awesome, world-of-awkward Anthropologie pants! The wash, the rough cut, the ginormous cuffs; Kennedy might have slipped into a coma.
Ok, but wait, actually these wide, pleated VELVET pants might actually be the thing to kill her!
I mean, I said all the words already: pleated and velvet!
But, for reals, Kennedy did pick out these shorts to share on the blog today. “Grandma’s curtains or carpet got turned into shorts and it’s everything I ever wanted. I’d take a jacket, couch and a dog in this please!” -Kennedy
For my part, I would wear these with opaque tights all winter long!
From the men’s section I was going to share a hilarious “Vandelay Industries” t-shirt, but I couldn’t not spotlight this incredible weathered leather jacket!
This one you have to see and touch in real life; it is so soft and light -as opposed to some vintage leather jackets that get a bit stiff through age.
I have myself only just come out of my coma brought on by this incredible Smoking Lily scarf! One side has a huge, effervescent jellyfish print…..
….and the other has single-celled, water-based organisms! I love all the things that Smoking Lily comes up with, and it’s always such a treat to have their stuff in the shop!
I can’t believe this gorgeous wool blazer from Chez Simons made it to the sale’s rack. But here it is for you, now at 50% off!
Blarg! Friends, I did a big snoop in the backroom, but in my excitement over the Matt and Nat crossbody, Kate Spade patent leather tote and vintage YSL heels that I found back there, and in my haste to cover my tracks so no one would know I was messing with the backroom-system, I forgot to take pictures! I’m sorry! All of those (plus a Poppy Barley bag and some incredible coats!) should be out on the floor soon, and I’m guessing they will be sold the minute their tag gets affixed, so come to the shop to check it all out right away! And, hey, I’ll be in on Saturday so when you stop by we can talk about the Bachelor in Paradise finale, what we think is really going on at Everlane and if maybe exercise is a thing I should be doing!
