Well, friends, it is time for you to go to the staff room and grab that tray of Ferrero Rocher that was meant to be “for everyone” and sneak it back to your desk and eat the WHOLE THING while we talk about clothes! It’s totally allowed (but, um, don’t get caught), because that is the true bliss of Decembers!
So, I’m not sure if this is a dress or a jacket….or a cardigan? That’s the thing about clothes from the future: our puny 2019 minds cannot conceive of the heights and versatility of the fashions of the future!
This dress/lab coat is made out of that scuba type material that we’ve seen from Oak+Fort in the past, and all the edges are laser-cut. Scuba plus laser cutting equals future vibes, but in a not-unpleasant mind-bending sort of way the bell or A-shape of this reads as like a wealthy Victorian child’s dress coat.
Friends, this is new discovery for me, but might be my favourite new Canadian designer! Kate Hewko is a designer out of Calgary! I’ve been to Calgary! It’s like we are best friend already! I am already so in love with her fashions, I might need to revise my Christmas list. This dress is tea-length, which is such an interesting choice for a dress that essentially has an empire waist. It must be a stunning silhouette on a human, I can’t wait to see!
But the top lacing is really the star of show here. I love how the webbing produces thicker lines, which keeps it from coming across as too girly, and that crewneck is gives it a nice edgy touch…I love it!
So, this week in Frye…..Frye!
These Fryes are a lot less rugged than the typical Frye boot, even Frye flats. The simple sort of soft look happening here seems elfish too, which is just so adorable!
I think these beauties, with their short shaft, would look so good with some opaque tights and a lovely winter dress!
Solid Frye leather sole, with a bit of rubber for grip!
I mean……gah! Do we need words here??
I’ve been calling this a romper, but according to Canadian Jackson Rowe this is a “playsuit”. Sure. This romper, though, friends, is so incredible! It is a super soft jersey, and you just step in and out of it from the top with no awkward adjustments that make you re-evaluate how badly you actually do need to pee!
Hopefully here you can get a better idea of the look here, and the great pockets! Friends, I tried it on for you, and basically just wanted to live in it! You have to come try it on; it is like no other romper experience!
And there from the centre of the accessory cabinet, staring unblinkingly right at me and following me with its gaze everywhere I go is this HUGE black stone ring!
How huge is it? This huge!
But really, friends, it is so stunning!!
Oooooooooooo, very special vintage alert! This incredible wool cable-knit sweater is such a lovely soft cream colour (you might need to see it in real life to see how pretty it is)!
But check this out! Made for EATON’S!!! I even love how whimsical and hopeful the tag looks!
Is this like summer in a boot, or what?! Actually, it looks like that Eaton’s tag feels!
Obviously these are the opposite of “simple”, but, friends, these look extremely wearable to me! The colour palette here is cheerful yet muted, with lots of colours that are easy to work with like burgundy and slate blue.
In a counterintuitive way, I think these boot need to be paired with a busy outfit, not necessarily something simple. I can’t wait to see these on a human and see how they come alive!
Friends, we seem to have had a steady flow of Canadian Brunette the Label coming through the shop lately (we briefly had a Redhead, but it flew out of here before I could even share it with you)! This week, girls!
Just keep an open mind for a minute, friends! This is not a boring, unwearable-if-you-want-to-be-taken-seriously faux-fur vest; this one is cropped and fitted (and so soft!), so it is actually very wearable and current! This over the black sweater dress you would wear with the Frye elf boots, or over the long tan cardigan you are wearing with the burgundy patterned boots! Over your sequin party dress (also good with the Frye boots)! Or with your winter floral dress!
Mmmmmmm, sooooooo sofffffffffttttt!
And over in the men’s section, this seemed fitting:
This week’s scarf is super plain, but that’s fine because the only thing you need to know about this scarf is that it’s mustard yellow!
I can’t remember if we had talked about these high-waisted, button fly jeans (that you could wear with the furry vest, a white ribbed turtleneck and white vintage cone-heel pumps!), but they are now on the sale rack for, gulp, $18!!
I mean, this!
Well, friends, the gift giving season is upon us. As such, remember that you can add this to your wishlist!!
For holiday hours, we will be closed December 25th, January 1st and 2nd. That means, yes, we ARE open on the December 24th (closing at 4PM) and December 26th, and, yes, we ARE open on December 31st (closing 4PM).
However, friends, due to, um, the Gregorian calendar, there will not be a blog next week (Dec 25th) or the week after (Jan 1)! Sucks, I know. But I didn’t make up the calendar system we use, because if I did it would be METRIC. Think about it.
But other than that I will be in the shop most days and, of course, on the Saturdays, so you will have to come by and I can perform some sort of live-action version of blog (me running around the store clutching things and shouting “HOW COOL IS THIS?!”), maybe there’ll be a little sale on for you to enjoy from the 26th-28th (wink wink), and of course we can have a lengthy discussion about metric time!
