Friends, did any of you catch in her Instagram story this week when Kennedy (who you can visit at Red Pony on Mondays and Wednesdays) dressed a mannequin in an Christmas look and declared a necklace to be Christmasey because “It looks like tinsel”? Pfffffft, bahaha! So now I have started to try to make all my outfits look more festive by adding accessories that look like tinsel, and may have already once wondered if I could just use an actual tinsel? And if yes, can I carry this look throughout all the other seasons if I REALLY own it?
ANYWAYS. Friends, you will never guess where this is from! While you ponder that for a moment -without scrolling down too far to check the answer- let’s move on to another important question: is this a top or a dress? Friends, I think this is going to depend on the hight of the wearer, and the size of the upper body. Depending on those variables, I think it would make a great dress (with black opaque tights and booties, or even black sheer tights and strappy heels!) OR top (with faux-leather leggings, or black tuxedo pants and a pointy-toe high heel)! Now, where is it from…….?
Our local fave Oak+Fort. I KNOW! I couldn’t believe it when I saw! But then suddenly it stopped looking like a mess of tangled tinsel and more like an elegant croque en bouche!
Well, friends, any time we get a Soia & Kyo jacket in the shop we get pretty excited. There are, um, 3 in the shop right now (It’s a fluke! Like the fact that there are 4 pairs of Stuart Weitzmans and 3 pairs of Fryes. That’s just what’s raining here this week!). But this one is special because it is understated in its drama, yet there is still something about it that makes it a total show-stopper!
The placement of the buttons is soooo Soia & Kyo, but where we would usually see them as big and oversized, the buttons are a standard size and regular proportion. A spectacular collar is the usually the jewel in the crown of a Soia & Kyo, and on this one you still get that great architectural feel at the top, but, again, not oversized .
Oooooo, and you know what else we looooooooove having in the shop? Fluevogs! Hey, just like that coat is an understate design for Soia & Kyo, this Chelsea boot is very, um, well, -let me remind you of my history of staunch Fluevogian loyalty as I say this- *normal* for a Fluevog boot.
On the whole I love this classic Chelsea shape, with a bit of a worker-boot style rounded toe and that dressy bleached-wood heel.
These are the RCI (Radio Canada International) from the Radio family. Radio family’s message is: Tune in, Turn On, Vlog out.
The DDFT on the pull tab stands for “Don’t Delay, Fluevog Today”. I tried these one for you, friends, and they fit small for a 9 and might fit best on an 8.5 or 8. You’re welcome.
Eeeeeeeeeeee, friends!!! It’s a hand-knit ski sweater!! JUST LOOK AT IT! This is knit as a Cowichan sweater with features such as a chunky cowl, stitched seams and a zipper instead of buttons.
Why do I see this as a ski sweater, you ask? Welllllllll, because of this guy on the back! (Hilarious!)
Swooshing down the hill, past the flags!
It doesn’t end there! Check out the ski poles on each arm!! I mean, THIS!
You can totally wear that ski-sweater with these rad Levis’!
Super high waist, baggy thighs, basically everything I spent my junior-high school years trying to avoid.
Ding ding! Time to ring the sustainability bell! Kazak is an ethical clothing brand from Montreal by Genevieve Paquette.
Kazak creates collections out of recycled and reused materials and leather. The cloth portion of this purse totally reminds me of a cork print, but I love that little kick of yellow (and I generally just love yellow and grey together!).
And wait! Check out the adorable lining!
This purse will fit your mom wallet (that baby blue leather one is not my mom-wallet, but it has the same set-up as my own mom-wallet so it can totally hold all your loyalty cards, health-care ID for all the members of your family, ETS bus transfer ticket from 2017 and band-aid wrapper, but no actual bandaid), medicine pouch (headache and migraine meds, organic lip-balm and, yes, actual band-aids), keys to all the houses you have ever lived in and all the cars you’ve ever owned, lipstick (in vintage lipstick case) and two or more reusable Baggu bags. This purse will not, however, fit all of that and your knitting project. So that’s a deal breaker for me.
So, you know how I like things that are a little weird? Well, this shirt is a little weird, friends! First, I love the 90s engineer stripes. To me they work as a neutral. And I love the cropped boxy shape, and the fact that it has an elastic at the bottom to keep it’s boxy shape on without having to fiddle around with tucking it in etc.
The drop sholder is how you know it is not actually from the 90s, but riddle me this, friends: how do the stripes at the shoulder start at a 90 degree angle to the stripes on the body….
…..but end up verticle by the time they reach the cuff?? Hmmmmm??
This perfume bottle (with a cap that unscrews!) is actually…
……a tiny charm on a bracelet!
(Now, at this point, friends, someone parked their red car in front of Red Pony, reflecting all the light and it makes the pictures look pink. I don’t know how to fix this, so let’s all agree to pretend it isn’t happening!)
Well, that’s my xmas shopping done! Actually, my spouse plays the vintage *Ms* Pac Man game, so I would need to add a bow to this!
Weeeeeee! I live for blanket scarfs these days!
I love when chunky scarfs are wrapped and piled up high like whipped cream!
Sigh. This was supposed to show the beautiful two-tone soft beige colours of this scarf. Engage your imagination.
Then over in the sale section:
Oh, hey, I tried on that Soia & Kyo coat for you! Even though it fit way too big on me, it still holds its shape and looks flattering. That is a super well-designed garment!
Well, friends, I feel like I have finally gotten into the groove of my winter wardrobe. For a second there I felt like I was all over the place and had never experienced a winter before. Luckily, some of my favourite consignors have come in to save me from languishing in cotton-cardi purgatory. (Sometimes, putting a yellow cardigan over a summer dress and adding tights on DOES NOT actually count as a winter outfit)(unless you like that, in which case: trust your own fashion instinct and keep being you, you wonderful, special you!).
So, I’ll be in on Friday morning this week if you have time for a chat, or all day Saturday as usual. You should come in so we can catch up on what you wore to your office holiday party, my new approach to my winter clothing and we can try on all the new boots we have in the store together!
