Friends, this post contains Smoking Lily and a bunch of dinosaurs, so you better go pee first before reading on!
Is it too soon for me to be dead? Because I am. I have never seen this Smoking Lily print and it’s so different from their usual earthy/nature/science-is-art thing they do. This is JUST AWESOME. I love how sharp and detailed the screw is; it’s so edgy!
The screw is printed over the small pleated section of the skirt (also a very nice design touch!), so the underside of the pleats is left blank. I can’t wait to see the effect when someone walks in this one!
This down coat is Mackage! I KNOW! They’ve exaggerated the quilting across the entire coat (which am loving!), but kept the zippers and pockets simple in a way that reads as a bit industrial or minimalist to me.
The body of the coat is navy, and the sleeves are black. That’s a tricky combo, but they have nailed it and it works to give an unexpected overall elegance to a pretty standard sporty jacket.
Aaaaaaaaaaah! Finally we get to have a close look at the Frye boots!
The flat heel and the unembellished, classic upper are timeless on this round-toed Billy Short boot!
Yessssssssssssss, Frye! The leather sole!
Double F!
I am completely taken in by by these boots; they sure are great boots to be dead in!
Ooooo, this is a nice surprise: a Brunette sweatshirt! A bunch of Vancouver babes supporting each other.
Ok, let’s look at MORE Smoking Lily! This is an Oh Joyful tunic, with a great boat neck and, yes, pockets! Oh, and mustard yellow?? Good thing I already died earlier!
BEES!!!!! See, friends? This is more like the earthy/nature/science-is-beauty type of print I was talking about.
Across the back you can get a real sense of the complete print. LOVE IT.
Seriously, friends. Seriously. Tiny DINOSAUR EARRINGS!! I mean, what could be better than…..
……only a DINOSAUR DRESS! This dinosaur print is custom made for the mega Edmonton maker Suka, and you can always find something with the dino print in their online shop. (I was distracted by all this cool stuff and forgot to take a close-up pic of the dino print. Sorry, friends!)
But I did take a picture of the saucy scoop neck in the back!
Holy crapola, friends, GREEN shoes! And not just any green shoes, these are Fly London! This style is absolutely not what I think of when I think of Fly London. Fly London is one of those brands (like Trippen) that I can count on to look like it is from outer space, but these green lovelies (greenies! Ha!) have a very solid retro vibe. It’s like these are straight out of the typing pool crossed with a Dee-Lite video!
Luckily, there is something spacey happening with the shape of greenies. The slight lean of the oversized, geometric heel are giving me a futuristic feel, so these might actually be straight out of the robot typing pool. (Toaster Typers, yes?)
And speaking of futuristic vibes, settle in, friends, because we are going to have a long talk about this vintage top. While at first glance this looks like a Qing style top, it is worth the second look because this one is more boxy than a-line, the sleeves are cropped at glove-length (aka Oak+Fort awkward I-outgrew-it length) and those square pockets at the front all equal………A LAB COAT TOP! My favourite thing! (Bury me in my Birds of North America dress and those Frye boots.)
This predates minimalism and, um, Oak+Fort. Actually, this one is by Beatrice Pines who was a Canadian designer from the 1970’s. Ack, my heart! Now, it is entirely possible that Beatrice Pines of Montreal was from the future, got sent back in time through, oh, let’s say, some magical stones to the 1970’s where she applied her minimalist aesthetic from the future to her designs, and what has survived is this very top that is very much in style right now!
Here’s a closer look at the gorgeous Cheongsam brocade, mandarin collar and gold buttons!
I mean, this large, square patch pocket is soooo lab-coat! How can this be so many cool things at once?!?!
From another of our local faves: Cinder+Smoke!
Horses!
So many great finds for everyone in the men’s section these days!
Friends, I am SO EXCITED about this scarf!
First, it’s lambs wool!
The patchwork look of the patterns totally remind me of that Preloved scarf we had a while back, but I love how the patterns and colours compliment each other so well, and in such an understated way.
Here’s the back side, which is also cozy and welcoming.
And then there’s THIS! This. Friends, this is a Royal Warrant. If you want a Royal Warrant for yourself, you have to provide quality goods consistently to a royal. A Royal Warrant shows that you have a solid trading relationship with the following royals:
The Queen (no big deal, whatev)
Prince Philip (sure)
And Prince Charles (comes into Red Pony all the time. Loves our men’s section.)
And over on the sale rack:
Well, friends, I am feeling much better than last week! I’ll be in the shop on Saturday in perky form! Come by and we can discuss what we bought at Royal Bison (still on this weekend, btw!), how far into season 3 of The Crown we are and if anyone got my Toaster Typers joke!
