In the past week, friends, 2 (two!) new people told me that they read the blog! I think that brings the readership of the blog up to 10 now! Hurray! SO MANY great things this week, friends; let's get to it!
We are just on such a great roll with the Smoking Lily in the shop these days! Lovingly hand made by the Smoking Lily team in Vancouver and Victoria, and always special to find in the shop.
This skirt has pockets! And check out the fabric, friends! We are really flushing out my new love of fabrics that look like vintage curtains! I love it when you discover a new a way to look at fashion and clothing; it feels so mindful and refreshing to see things from a new perspective. And in the case of this skirt, there is a good possibility that is made from vintage curtains!
Ever mindful of their goal of zero fabric-waste in the production of their garments, check out the printed lining that was probably remains from another project! I love when the inside is just as cool as the outside!
AND THEN......
..........a ghost from our most beloved loss....Nokomis!
And here it is again: a print that looks like it's from vintage curtaines/tableclothe/bed-sheets. This one is such a great a find!
Lucky for us, Nokomis is like a zombie that won't die! (Yikes, this metaphor got away from me...). My point is that we were blessed and euphoric last year with Vera Véro, and Nokomis collaborator Elizabeth Hudson lives on with Ursa Minor in Montreal!
Great purse from Matt and Nat:
I'm fascinated with the industrial chain:
And remember when Matt and Nat used to have this message inside?
And from another Canadian sweet-heart (whose name has always been one of my faves): Gentle Fawn!
(These cropped pants are labeled as a size 8, friends, but, um, no. These ain't no regular 8).
Super cool Fly London sandles!!
This awesome circle skirt is unexpectedly...Lululemon? For reals, friends. It's a comfortable wear, with pockets (thanks!) and, as Sara (who used to work at Red Pony) pointed out: the moisture wicking technology is perfect if you, like me, constantly spill stuff all over yourself! This has totally blown my mind in terms of the usefulness of moisture wicking clothes for those of us who spend way more time spilling stuff on ourselves than sweating from any form of vigorous exercise!
An easy, minimalist knit dress from Aritzia:
OK, so, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Let's look adoringly at this super satisfying print!
This tank aslo has a very cute, but hard to photograph, back!
Lovely feather earings:
Believe it or not, friends, but this is a Gap dress! And believe it or not, friends, this dress is silk!
Friends, let's talk about feelings for a minute. The turnover in the shop is so bananas lately that this week when I came into the shop to check things out, I got kind of frantic. There were so many cool things that I wanted to share with you that I started to feel overwhelmed, and I had this alarming moment where I wondered if it was possible that I was having some sort of fashion burn-out. (Nooooooooo!). So I made a stranger who was in the shop go fetch me a coffee and a puffed-wheat square from Remedy, and I took a step back for a minute. It was surreal for me to think that if a small consignment store can feel like it's moving too fast, I will definitely need some sort of sedative the next time I have to go into a real store in a mall! But no worries, friends, a little bit of existential angst goes a long way with me. This was a small reminder of how grateful I am that all the stuff in Red Pony is so thrilling and fulfills all my fashion needs!
I also had some non-existential, positive experiences in the shop! Like spotting a companion just sitting down and reading a book while his friend shopped!
(He was reading "Folk Songs of Canada"!)
And also, some new people came into the shop and I chatted them up, hoping, you know, that I could convince them to go get me a coffee and puffed wheat square from Remedy. One of them said, "You seem like a really interesting person". HOLD ON. Friends, flattery is totally the way to my heart, and totally your way to a 10% discount. So I *casually* laid down the seemingly most interesting thing about me: I'm from Belgium, and I lived in the Middle East and Africa before coming to Canada. (I KNOW! Am I interesting and mysterious, OR WHAT?!). I was very careful to quickly shoo them off before they asked questions and found out that it's actually a disappointingly boring story, or that I spend most of my time sitting at home knitting while watching British murder-mysteries that take place in cozy villages. Or that my second favorite pastime is sitting at home knitting while watching shows about teenagers struggling to make it alone in a post-apocalyptic world. (The maze changes shape at night! All the grounders speak English! Barnaby has a new Detective Sergeant who thinks he's too good to work in a small town! Um, oh....what was I saying?).
I will be in all weekend this weekend if you want to come in and chat about any of these things! Please bring me a coffee and puffed wheat square from Remedy.
