Friends, I was almost late on the blog because I got wrapped up in looking at all the websites from some of my faves this week! For example: I love this pineapple (PINEAPPLE!) dress, but I also can’t stop lusting after Karen Walker’s tobacco poppy jumpsuit! I am, of course, pro any type of unexpected fruit on a garment, and I love the colour and shape of this dress!
PINEAPPLES! GREEN PINEAPPLES!
This dress is silk. End of blog. Ha, kidding! Although, the fact that this dress is is soooooooo long and is alllllllll silk speaks to a certain luxurious presence, but the design is so simple that it’s totally wearable.
The colour is gorgeous (I’m seeing dusty pink everywhere these days and it’s totally working for me!) and it has this elegant shell/heart pattern!
Friends, you know how I go on and on about prints that look like vantage curtains/tablecloths/sheets etc. Would you agree that this is the *necklace* equivalent of vintage print? And next question: what is this? Do you think they were spoons? But how did they get that embossing on there?
I love that there are 2 of them and that they are each unique!
It has suddenly occurred to me that I am looking at this incorrectly. Should they go curved-surface front, or should the concave sides be facing outward? All these questions just make me appreciate this piece more!
Ah, from our departed and beloved friends at Loft 82. Friends, I love the colour (see, dusty pink/peachy again!) and patterns on this shirt!
There is something modern about the little geometric triangles that make the sweet colours more wearable.
The shape of this shoe, with the strap at the ankle would look great on me, friends. Now, as anyone who has come in contact with me at any point in the past two weeks knows: I SPRAINED MY ANKLE. Now I’m all freaked out that I might fall off of shoes like these! Which is great for you, I GUESS, since I won’t scoop them up from you!
But speaking of the platforms, look at the stripes on the wedge!
Gorgeous Anthropologie shorts!
I love this woven look!
It’s an Oak+Fort party right now in the shop again, friends. I almost over-loaded the blog with it!
Look closely: this black top is hi-lo, but still has that great drape! (Wouldn’t it look lovely and dramatic over those Anthropologie shorts?)
From local maker Kristine MacDonald of Smithstine! Kristine handmakes all her pieces which have a big prairie influences. (Bison are the new moose!). I love her Alberta Map pieces, and the Edmonton Art Gallery necklace! The necklace we have in the shop is one of her earlier pieces, so, you know, it’s vintage! Want more? Kristine will be at the Make It show this weekend (March 22-24) and Royal Bison in May!
I think this one is the true Grown-Up item this week! So elegant and breezy!
Remember how I said last week that we have a bunch of Size 10 shoes in the shop right now? Well, now we have EVEN MORE!! (I took pics of all of them and put them on our Instagram highlights because I’m so excited to have them in). These lovies are so cute and don’t skimp on the design side, but they are classic enough that you’ll have them forever!
What have we this week from our friends down the ave at Workhall? I’m into this type of light-knit/loose-gauge here; I think the sheer effect without using actual sheer fabric is a bit more rugged and edgy.
Check out the hardware! I love a bold zipper that goes nowhere nonsensically; its what gives this top a certain deconstructed feel (that I think is so cool)!
Oh, just a micro-pleated silver dress!
OK, so I was going to save this special I Know Her for the end of the post, but I just can’t wait! LOOK WHO CAME INTO THE SHOP!!!! It’s Ellie Heath from Girl Brain!! I mentioned Girl Brain, the all woman sketch comedy group, before; I stan them so hard, friends! Anyways, here is Ellie trying on the silver dress!
So, this mens Icebreaker shirt is not made of wool, but I’ll take any chance to talk about wool, and Icebreaker’s approach to wool and sustainable practices is so holistic that I have to mention it! So, Icebreaker ensures that all the merino sheep used for the production of their woolen goods are free range with minimal human intervention (so they can be themselves!). But not just that, they must be free range AND must have guaranteed shade for if they get too hot and shelter from the elements. AND they must have access to clean water. AND they must each be monitored for injuries AND they must be as free from stress as possible! They call these “The Freedoms of the Flock” (love it!). Freedom from hunger and thirst, discomfort, distress, injury and disease. Not be a bummer here, friends, but I can’t help but notice that the rights afforded to these sheep, simple rights such as “access to clean water” and “freedom from distress or discomfort” are not offered to the vast majority of garment workers world wide. Anyways, hats off to Icebreaker for such a mindful sustainability model, and, oh yeah, here’s a great shirt:
For our in-between-seasons season:
Here’s what I found in the sales rack this week. It’s Free People, people! On sale for 50% off!
The back room is so packed right now, friends, that we don’t have any hangers left! One of my favourite consignors has come in and dropped off a whole bunch of jewelry. I know she favours local makers and independent artists, so I can’t wait for her stash to hit the floor! Here’s a peek:
So, Ellie Heath (I know her!) is in a web series and actually came in to pick out some things to wear on the series, called Chew On This. I was so excited that she was in the shop that, naturally, I was as unfunny and as awkward as possible. I was thoroughly unimpressive, friends, and at this rate my secret dream of being part of Girl Brain is never going come true! I did do one thing right, though! I suggest this dress for her to try on…..
……with adorable heart shape buttons…..
….and she loved it! (Can’t you tell?)
Hopefully my totally inappropriate LINGERING hug and holding her hand as she tried to edge towards the exit (I DON’T KNOW WHY I DO THIS I AM MORTIFIED) didn’t totally frighten her off!
I’ll be in the shop on Saturday if you want to pop in to say hi, and we can discuss merino wool, my failed acting career and which pieces from Smithstine are your faves!
I wrote this at the Woodrack Café, another independent, locally {woman} owned business. When we support independent businesses we make an immediate positive impact on real human beings in our community!
