Guess what friends? We are reopening on June 6th! We’ve been super busy getting all the new stuff prepped and I kinda don’t have time to do a blog post, buuuuuutttt there is so much cool stuff that I am so excited about that I can’t NOT share it with you! So, if when we open some of the clothes aren’t as nicely steamed as they usually are, it’s because I was too busy gushing to you about how cool everything is!
Now, we have seen this design of dress from Cinder+Smoke in a winter version, but now we have a SPRING version of it!! I feel so lucky to have seen it in a different season!
I love this print! To me it looks kinda like faded vintage wall paper. It’s such a cool look!
Remember how this design has buttons down the back? They are functional, not just decorative.
Your eyes do not deceive you, friends. You are, in fact, looking at a lobster pencil skirt! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! This is so cool!!! Maybe lobsters should be the new bird? Like, put a lobster on it?
Yummmmmmm, lobster……
Friends, you may have forgotten how to do it, but get ready for smiling. I mean, how can you look at this Fossil change-purse and not smile?! This thing is so chubby and cute!
Each side has a different Orla Kiely-esque print.
And look at the adorable, oversize snaps!! It’s just so stinking cute!
I brought out our trusty clothes pins for scale. Clothespins ruling: size cute!
Oh, yeah, you can also put things in it!
If you are one of those people who checks the online-store daily, then maybe you’ve noticed all the cool Smoking Lily and Nokomis stuff coming through these days! (If you are not one to check the on-line store daily, well, I mean, that’s fine, it’s not like you are missing out on some super awesome stuff or anything. OR ARE YOU?) And more keeps on coming! So, check this out: Nokomis pleated shorts!
Now, if we take into account the fact that Nokomis has left us about 10 years ago, one has to ask: how did they know that pleats were going to come back into style? Were they just that awesome and fashion-forward? Or -now keep an open mind- were they from the future?
Now, friends, you should got to the bathroom now. Because you WILL pee your pants. This wool, owl-in-flight top is one of the absolute coolest things I have seen in so long, I can barely even look at it now, it’s that incredible. This top is from Canadian brand Dagg & Stacey.
Look at the awesome embroidered detailing here!
I hesitated on getting all theme on you here, but even though this is also a change-purse, it is a completely different conversation from the Fossil change-purse. Friends, this beaded beauty is serious vintage…
…and here’s how I know!
I mean, gah, I almost choked on my gum and dropped this one when I saw this tag!! I love that it was made for The Bay. And, I’m sure I don’t need to remind you because it’s right there in that shrine of me you you put up in your living room and light a candle for every day, that I’m from Belgium?! ANNNNNNNNDD I am a very old vampire. Friends….I MADE this purse! Ha, ok, just kidding. Um, let’s get back to the drooling.
That stunning bead work!
Can you see the outline of a bow? This is so delicate and pretty. Wouldn’t this be such a lovely gift for someone who does not choke on gum and drop things?
For some reason I am so excited about this skirt! I think it’s the colossal puffiness of it…..
…..and that kind of “daily function”- spill-friendly print. (For those who are spillers. Which I am not. All food and liquids destined for my mouth neatly remain contained there and I do NOT regularly find crumbs or larger pieces of food and bits of napkin in my cleavage at the end of the day and I also do NOT have a stain in the same spot on all my tops coincidentally also on my boobs.)
But also, friends, I believe this skirt is hand made! Just the amount of time that you would need to get all that bunching right is nuts! I can’t tell for sure it it’s vintage (but I think yes just based on the fabric). Anyways, I am crazy about this one.
Oh, ok, and one more might-be-vintage dress! So this one I thought had that kind of 90s polyester sundress type vibe to it, but I didn’t notice until I stepped back how awesome the print is!
Do you see that giant flower?! How cool is this?!
Oh, also, just some awesome mustard yellow Fly London shoes!
I love the thick ankle strap!
And did I mention mustard yellow? MUSTARD YELLOW!
So, here’s the latest shop news: we are opening this Saturday! Yay! Please come for a visit! But, also, don’t come down all at once! (Still work-shopping this message). For now we are opening for 2 days per week: Thursdays and Saturdays. But we will still be running the online store all the time. And, to help me deal with the stress of all these changes, I have brought a psychologist to the shop! Haha, just kidding. Oh, but also not kidding. Alex is a psychologist who mindfully left the field to explore her heart’s creative desires and probably hoped to work with a laid-back, easy-going, super-mellow person who does not choke on her gum, drop delicate vintage items and then spills coffee all over herself. Her style is totally different than mine, and I am always amazed at the incredible outfits she creates with the Red Pony inventory that I would never have thought to put together, but that are so awesome! She also has a crazy amount of knowledge about independent Canadian brands, and I am so excited to be discovering new things with her on board. Full disclosure though, friends: she camps. Like, does the camping. Like, in the outdoors. Like, where bugs come from. And where there is no running water for when you spill something really sticky in your cleavage.
You can meet Alex when you come to Red Pony on Thursdays!
So, after being shut down for 12 weeks (that’s THREE DIFFERENT SEASONS in Edmonton!) I can finally say…..I’ll be in the shop on Saturday!!!! We have hand sanitizer, so come in for a visit and we can talk about EVERYTHING!
(Special message to Ang: I heard and just wanted to say I am thinking of you! You are one of the first (weird!) regulars I connected with and form you I learned that it’s totally worth it to really get to know the people who come into the shop. Cancer is probably really pissed off that it got saddled with you!)
