Ready for some meticulous exploration this week, friends? Funnest thing ever!
This gorgeous wool coat is vintage and made in Canada! This colour red -popping, but not too bright- is just the best, and check out that tie at the neck! It’s in perfect condition; I fear it may have never seen the outdoors and fulfilled its ultimate cold weather destiny. The lining is still intact, and, friends, it has a very special surprise in store for you…..
….a union label!!! This label tells us this coat was made by a member of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union, which was founded in 1900 (Canada joined around 1924). So, essentially, you are looking at an ethically made garment *with receipts*! Thanks to -hmmm, let’s round up and just call it globalization, the ILGWU doesn’t exist in its original iteration, which makes finding a garment with their label in it even MORE special! They even had a song about the importance of the union label:
Look for the union label / when buying a coat, dress, or blouse / Remember somewhere our union’s sewing / our wages going to feed the kids and run the house / We work hard, but who’s complaining? / Thanks to the ILG, we’re paying our way / So always look for the label / it says we’re able to make it in the USA
Now let’s get down to some really fun exploring and exam all the patches on this hoodie from Aritzia! I like the vaguely DIY look of the patches randomly splattered around on this top
Parrot and bee. Sure.
Green gems….
The wild cate (tiger?) is my favourite….
And then there are more on the back! The fun isn’t over yet!
Different gems and a different bee!
Another parrot plus the Little Moon patch.
OK, when I first these boots I was all “what the?” and thought they were a little weird, and then I looked closer and I was all “WHAT THE?” and realized they are actually the coolest thing ever!
These boots are by Woolrich (I KNOW), but they aren’t vintage. They do, however, have a distinctly 90’s feel with the red and black flannel (obvs) -which is wool- and the shape of the boot at the foot.
Then the long, industrial zipper that runs up the outside of the leg is a great detail that it keeps the boot from having too much of an equestrian feel. I looooooooove this boot!
Well, it’s an olive cardigan. But not just a boring old Olive cardigan……
…..this one has these huge, dramatic balloon sleeves!! I’m sure there is as much fabric through the sleeves of this sweater as there is in the body of the sweater!
Then the sleeves gather in a funnel cuff so that when your arms hang down, the excess sleeves flow over like a parachute.
Ok, wait wait wait! This is soooooooo good! A vintage, gulp, dog sweater! Pffffft, gah, snort! So good!
And the dogs are wearing plaid, flannel coats!! Sometimes the dog sits by its bowl….
Sometimes it lays down next to its bone…..
Are you ready for the classiest, most grown up belt bag?
This one is from Holt Renfrew (that’s how you know it’s for grown-ups!). Just look at that great pebbled leather!
Unfortunately, this is not big enough for my mom-wallet, knitting project and multiple reusable Baggu bags that I carry in my purse everywhere I go…..
But it does hold the much more reasonable contents of Kendey’s purse!
Fastens with a grommet and ring system, so the end of the belt is not flopping around like a, um, tail. This belt is a very generous size with lots of room for adjustments.
Not a Wednesday with a little Oak+Fort sprinkled in! This simple dress is not as uninteresting as it may look in the picture….
…..because it’s actually made from that brushed suede-not-suede material that just absorbs the light. Wear in winter with a black turtleneck underneath, black opaque tights (which we sell if you don’t have a pair) and some oxfords or chunky loafers! Oooooooo, I know!, it could even be that whole outfit, but with a white turtleneck underneath for a truly mod look!
Holiday shopping done! I’m sure you can think of someone in your life (maybe yourself, harhar) that would love to receive this simple Kate Spade bracelet!
Plus it has a secret message for you on the inside of the band! Awwww, I love that!
Now this is a great find from the men’s section: a community radio shirt!
CFCR is Saskatoon’s community radio station, and whoever they found to do this t-shirt graphic did an awesome job: the butterfly wings are EARS and the text at the bottom says “FM-phasis”! Get it?
This week in scarf is sigh. I really believe in scarves and the important service they provide, and as a knitter I have many scarves. However, I always want MORE! And I’m easily swayed by things like softness and colour….you know, like this one. I just looooooooovvvvvveee it and I just waaaaaaaaaaaannnnt it!
I cannot believe this Birds of North America dress is now on sale for 50% off. This one is very, very special, friends!
That print!
I’ll be in on Friday and Saturday, friends, so come in for a visit and we can sing the union song together and stuff the contents of your purse into the belt pouch!
