We are rocking the prints and vintage dresses this week!
Friends, I almost forgot how much I love this type of vintagey dresses with flared skirts! The muted colours of this gorgeous brocade dress make it a stunner without being over-the-top!
It offsets its own vintaginess with a more modern back cut-out and exposed zipper:
I would almost say that this coat is a little tame for Canadian fave Soia & Kyo, who I usually associate with exaggerated -but always elegant- shapes. But I'm not complaining, I love when we get Soia & Kyo in the shop! And this one has the swoopy cowl shape and asymmetry on the buttons that keep it special!
(Psst! Want more Soia & Kyo? Our friends on Whyte Avenue at Bamboo Ballroom carry them, and they're on sale!)
Like the hilarious "Bull Shit" boxy raglan sweatshirt from a few weeks ago comes its sweeter (ha! See what I did there?!) cousin: the doughnut!
These sneakers are a surprisingly ethical and hard-sustainability-working shoe. The Natural World company was purposefully created to be an ethical super-brand, with a spotlight on human rights in manufacturing, the use of organic and recycled products while emitting no toxins during production! (How, though?? They talk about using "ancient techniques" and "ancient machines", so it's all very mysterious for people like me who want to know how the sausage is made, especially when it comes to sustainable fashion). Anyways, in conclusion, they have flowers on them and they are cute!
Now friends, along with Soia & Kyo, isn't this awesome vintagey dress the type of find that consignment shopping is all about? Yellow with paislies, pointed collar and double breasted buttons, people will be stopping you in the street to ask where you got it (which is my favourite type of compliment)!
PS While working on the blog in the coffe shop, someone peeked over and saw the picture of the Bettie Page dress and said "That's so cute! That can't be from Edmonton?!". Umm, yes! Insert my perfectly timed casual plug for Red Pony (read: I mumbled something incoherent that sounded something like "Umm, yes...it's just over there [pointing north].....er, at The Pony...Red Pony...um, there..."). I could have also said that there are similar dresses from our friends on Whyte Avenue at Rowena, but I can't even imagine how I could have got that out!
Moving on, friends! How about an easy to wear, pineapple shirt dress?!
Plus pockets! And did I say pineapples?!
And then the quintessential and timeless Campus boot!
Hey, a new take on "leopard print"!
Although these are possibly jaguars?
And look at the elegant V cut-out on the back:
Last week we had that great owl dress, and this week a completely different (yet still unique) take on an owl dress from Swedish brand Soya Concept!
This owl means business:
I'm late to the party here, friends. It completely passed me by that Oak+Fort does shoes! But here you go, Oak+Fort mules:
One more bird shirt, friends! This blouse is so lovely and feminine...
...and the birds are wearing top hats! Because they are fancy!
I wrote this at The Woodrack Café, another independent, locally {woman} owned business. When we support independent businesses, we make an immediate positive impact on real human beings in our community!
