Lots of stuff from some of out favourite local makers and designers in the shop this week, friends, plus some super-cute earrings and great t-shirts!
I've mentioned in the past that some of my most long-standing wardrobe items that have stood the test of time in terms of coolness are from Yumi, now here is an awesome sailing dress for you:
Who doesn't like mail?
I love the geometry here: the stripes are not too taxing on the eyes and highlight the simple shape of the skirt.
Check out the teeny-tiny detailing of these earrings:
When we have anything from local maker Fridget Apparel in the shop it always makes me feel important when I point out that I know her! Well, I kinda know her. I mean, if I see her and walk up to her and loudly say "HI BRIDGET" she'll politely say hi to me with a quizzical look on her face and then back away slowly. And here's one of her super cute tops:
Can you see the totally camouflaged pocket?
Fierce heels:
The material of this Liberty London dress is untreated (hypoallergenic!) cotton! And this one is the quintessential classic summer garden dress! Great floral print ("Betsy" from the Tana Lawn collection), timeless shape and....
....this type of eslatized back that we all remember from our childhood summer dresses!
This great chambray shirt-dress is made of Lyocell, which is touted as being one of the most sustainable fabrics as its production model is a closed loop (one article I read once said that 98.5% of its post-production waste is recovered and reused!) and the material itself is completely biodegradable! (Although I would never toss this beauty into the compost, friends!).
Black and white, criss-cross velcro shoes!
Another great Anthropologie skirt:
Seriously, friends: David Bowie Serious Moonlight tour t-shirt! On this tour he played Commonwealth in Edmonton!
Probably before you were born. I was already 76 years old in 1983.
Adorable red bird earrings:
Here's the funny thing about this Hell Bunny dress (and the one from last week): when guys come into the store, they always stop and comment on them! Guy walks by the dress rack on the way to the men's section, stops at dress and says "cool dress". This happened SEVERAL TIMES, friends! One time it was TWO dudes (Dude 1: "Hey, look at this. Pretty cool". Dude 2: "Yeah, cool.")!
Your server...
...and your lunch!
You know by now that I love substantial, chain-mail necklaces! This one is distinctive while not being too costumey:
Speaking of chain-mail, I'm sure that I need not explain the MANY LEVELS OF COOLNESS of this limited edition t-shirt:
Original art, hand screen-printed by Natasha of Whiteout Workshop. (Check out her booth at the Strathcona Farmer's Market every Saturday...then come down to Red Pony and show me what you got!)
And from one of Edmonton's institutions, Sabrina Butterfly:
The sale section is full of shorts these days, friends! Don't forget to check it out.
The most hilarious thing happened: on Saturday I was in the shop chatting with this one person who had on this awesome sweater with *bejeweled* bees on it (I KNOW!). It was super cute, and I told her so. She was pleased as she was on her way to a date. "I wasn't sure if the sweater and high-wasted jeans were too mom-ish for a date" she said. Then she looked me straight in the eye and deadpanned "But, you know: dress for the job you want, not the job you have". She was totally kidding, and it was SO HILARIOUS! Keep being you, funny-Saturday-girl!
