Friends, we have so many of my faves in the shop right now, it’s just raining down wish-list!
First off, we all wish ModCloth was a small, independent, locally {woman} owned shop in Edmonton so that we could try it all on, right? Luckily for us, we have a bunch of ModCloth in Red Pony! Weeeeeeeeeee! Are you smiling like I am while looking at this adorable top…..
….with STRAWBERRIES on it?!
In case you are worried that it borders too close to children’s clothing or sleepwear, there are buttons on the back which are just the right design element to signal to that this is actually playful blouse worn by a someone with a great deal of worldly experience and knowledge of fashion and culture.
Need more whimsy? Friends, we saw these shoes in the back room last week (they were even in the picture!), but I was blinded by the Camper boots, and I assumed these were just basic, striped flats and hadn’t realized that they are basic, striped flats with a kitty face!!
(Sidenote: Our Laura, who used to work at Red Pony, pointed out that these might be mice faces. I’ll consult with my six-year-old and let you know what the expert says) Adorable OR WHAT?!
And since these are Marc Jacobs -not children’s shoes- they are able to stay sophisticated, and there is no doubt that these are adult kitty shoes. Can you see how details like the whiskers and ears are formed? That’s some quality kitty shoes, friends!
At first I saw this Doc Martens tee and I was all “awwwwww, sequined hearts”, but then I looked again and clutched my pearls; the hearts land on…on….on….boobs! Ha! But, friends, I am kinda totally into this top; it is so unapologetic about being a heart/boob shirt!
Actually, friends, you know what the heart/boobs shirt really reminds me of? The t-shirts they wore in the November “A Walk Down Mammary Lane” edition of Girl Brain! Have you been yet? It’s an all-girl comedy sketch show (Edmonton needs this!), and they do a show every month at the Grindstone Theatre just three blocks from our new location! But there’s more! I know one of them!!!! Ok, maybe I haven’t ever actually met any of them in person, but Ellie Heath (on the right), followed me on Instagram! And not just the boring Red Pony Instagram, she follows my *even more boring* personal Instagram! Clearly this means that she reads the blog, thinks I’m cool and wants to be my best friend, but she is too shy to talk to me in person -NOT that she randomly followed me because I follow Girl Brain. However, despite sitting closer and closer to the stage every time I go to a show, she has yet to wave at me during a show or ask me up on stage to introduce me as her very best friend or, um, remote acquaintance. BUT, the point is: I KNOW HER!
Alright, that’s enough boobs. Here’s what I found in the mens section! A no-messing-around plaid, flannel shirt:
Friends, you know excited I get when we have Preloved in the shop! Canadian, hand-made using reclaimed fabrics, yes please! Plus, I have a soft spot for the pairing of brown and pink. The bottom of this skirt is a super soft knit (as a Fibre Whisperer, I think it’s cashmere!).
Across the back, the pink is from the same fabric as the front, but with a different pattern:
Check out the different patterns in the (calling it: wool blend) panels! Great construction on this one, as always, but it’s this creativity and these types of details that make Preloved so special!
Friends, I’m having a moment of hand-bag-lust sweat. This purse is just so adorable, sitting there all plump and humble!
Easy-access pocket on the back (side-eyeball to you, my caramel-coloured M&N satchel with the awkward shaped back pocket), and roomy enough for a mom-wallet, knitting project and a handwritten fan-letter to the girls of Girl Brain.
Cross-body strap…..
….and, almost most importantly: little feet on the bottom!
Friends, it is time for our special treat this week! A Ted Baker top! Weeeeeeeee!
I love anything with an embellished collar, and although the collar is the jewel (ha, jewel!) in the crown on this one…..
….I want to point out the scallops across the bottom of the knit. I ADORE a scalloped hem!
AND THEN, I noticed the sleeves ALSO are scalloped! How great is this top?!
CHIC from Anthropologie:
Here are the other shoes that blinded me to the kitty shoes with their cuteness last week:
The shortened vamp works so well on this flat; the altered proportion gives these a more feminine feel compared to standard oxfords and saddle-shoes.
The brogue detailing and blue laces also make this shoe!
I even like the lining!! All over adorable!
Horse dress!!
With ponies!
This pink coat reminds me of that sherbert pink coat we had a few weeks back. I’m loving the unexpected colours for winter outerwear. Whatever gets us through the winter!
Check-out the spacey, square buttons!
And a great sailor dress from Sourpuss!
I love the “Lost Love” eyeball!
While taking pictures of the Michael Kors bag (with my phone, because I’m such a pro), I got in the way in the mirror, but look how high I got my bee-hive!
Here’s my great-aunt with a proper ‘60s bee-hive! Aspirations, friends!
I’ll be in the shop on Saturday so come by and we can discuss what we think the Preloved skirt was in its previous incarnation!
