Friends, we will be getting to some great Canadian independent designs, but I have to start with this stunning slate-robin’s-egg-blue dress! That geometric/origami print is genius! The cut, the sleeves and that high neckline make it so wearable too! Get ready for the compliments!
I could NOT believe that we have a Stay At Home Club tee in the shop because I was *just* at Majesty and Friends in Highlands this week where they sell this exact t-shirt!!!! Stay at Home Club was created by Olivia Mew in Montreal, and is pinned all over my Pinterest because, you know, it’s so effing cool! I summoned my courage and messaged Julie, the owner of Majesty and Friends, and she actually messaged me back(!!!!!)! She said about Stay at Home Club, “They are really great people and they excel at expressing the feelings deep down inside us”.
(Not your size but you really want one? Head to Majesty and Friends to find more sizes and lots of other cool stuff!)
Friends, what do we think of branding everything to the east of the tracks on 82 ave as “East Whyte”? Our neighbors next door at the Acoustic Music Shop (I know the owner!!! I KNOW HIM!) are on board with this, so that makes two of us, but let’s make it an actual thing! So, from our friends down on west Whyte (hmmmm, ok, this might need some workshopping…) at Workhall, a luscious, little, champagne coloured, crushed velvet (VELVET) dress! The sleeves and the shape make it seem so simple, but the texture of the velvet is turning it into a totally unexpected darling of a dress!
And check out the back! Now it’s an evening dress!
This one can go on the minimalist page of my Pinterest! This cocoon coat is more of a pinky-orangey sherbert colour, but it’s wool so don’t be fooled by it’s playful colour, it is ready for winter!
Speaking of wool J Crew coats, this week in the mens section we have this great peacoat. Ah, friends, you know how I value a traditional peacoat! This one is traditional reefer, has the classic notched Ulster collar and welted pockets.
This one also has….condoms in the inside pocket! Bahahaha! I’m not even joking friends, these were in the pocket and I thought they were just extra buttons before pulling them out!
Hey, Poppy Barley flats! So great that they are d’orsay flats and they have contrasting leather. I love that they are still luxurious but also quirky and different at the same time.
And another independent from Quebec! The owl is what caught my eye, but then….
….there is the back! Friends, I think I like the back even more than the front!
I think this was on our Instagram a couple of weeks ago, but it’s worth checking out again because it’s rad! This one is from Locomotive Clothing in BC.
(You can also get this one at Majesty and Friends! It’s just that kind of week, friends).
I put together this little outfit, but what I want to point out is…..
….the adorable vintage vest!
Vintage, yes?
The print is totally that vintage-curtain type print that I am so into these days!
While we are talking vintage, here is your holiday sweater for this week!
Loving the simplicity of this a-line, wool skirt:
And can you see the lovely flower detail at the hip?
It’s not Wednesday without some Oak+Fort! Ain’t not party like an Oak+Fort party!
So while I was in the shop, Red Pony friend Stephanie came and we got to talking about her cool coat. It is from a beloved online retailer, but when it arrived the lining turned out to be of poor quality and ripped instantly, and Stephanie was NOT HAPPY. She complained to the company and got a refund….and kept the coat. Since it was such a cool shape and fit so well, and, more importantly, since Stephanie is a ecological consumer, instead of throwing the torn garment out, she went to a fabric store, picked out some cool fabric, and brought it to our neighbor Mimi at Leo’s Tailor on *East Whyte*.
Mimi replaced the lining, and look how beautiful this turned out! Now it’s a custom coat, and the landfill is short one ripped jacket!
She even thoughtfully lined the pockets with the same fabric! Stephanie plans to have a scarf made from the leftover pieces. I l just love this, friends!
Part two of this yannicdote is that while we were chatting, Stephanie’s reusable tea cup exploded inside her purse (arg!), so we dumped her whole purse out on the counter to wipe everything down and clean out the bag. And what did she have inside her bag? A sloth pouch from Majesty and Friends!!!!!! Friends, this is not some weird sponsored post from Majesty and Friends, I promise, all these things just happened to cross my path all at once! (Plus, you know I believe in supporting local businesses and I love to Shine-Theory women in business!)
I will be at Red Pony on Friday and Saturday this week. I just inherited a velvet romper (that’s right: VELVET! ROMPER!) from my friend Danielle that I will be wearing every day for the rest of my life, so when you come in we can discuss rompers and the important steps to follow when cleaning out your purse after you spilled a whole cut of water in it.
Wait! I just realized it’s Christmas next week! That snuck up fast. So there probably won’t be a blog next week (unless I can’t resist!) and maybe not one the following week either (sorry! I didn’t invent the calendar -if I had it would be metric!).
Since we are a real store, I think we should have a Boxing Week sale next week! Sound good? Come for a visit!
