Finally, a blog post from our new space at 9940-82 ave! I was so excited to be reunited with the clothes, and, friends, the fashion gods and goddesses saw fit to rain down a whole bunch of Smoking Lily to celebrate our reunion! There is so much to be excited about right now, I don’t know which way to look!
This one is straight off my ModCloth wishlist- Emily and Fin! This dress is lined and heavy enough for a fall, but what makes this dress really special, of course, is….
…the pixelated cityscape! This is so original, I love it!
This easily wearable, red sleeveless top is also all about the print:
I mean, little hot air balloons! I don’t know if it’s the cut of the top, or the orangey red, but for some reason these illustration-esque balloons read as grown up to me, even though it is such a whimsical print.
First I was super intrigued by the fishtail chain of this necklace because it’s so industrial and so *even*. The pendant piece is also super interesting because it is unexpectedly organic…and it is *UNeven*. (This could keep me awake all night, friends!)
The whole thing is mesmerizing!
OK, it is time. Big inhale. Now we are ready to check out this electric blue Smoking Lily skirt!
You can already see the cool carnival strong man print, but here’s a closer look!
Oooooo, I’m having such a hard time resisting this one! Do I have a million J Crew cardigans in my wardrobe? Yes. Do I have a lemon-yellow J Crew cardigan? NO, I DO NOT. So, to quote the unimpeachable logic of David from Friends, “It’s nice, and nice is good, and good is not bad. Ergo”
*sigh* I’m also having a really hard time resisting this one! This adorable box purse came over from Garneau Pony, and while we were clearing out the old shop someone walked by outside wearing this exact Michael Kors purse in light green, and she looked soooooo cooooool. Do I have a million purses already yet always carry the same one? Yes. Do I need an adorable fuschia purse that is too small to hold my mom-wallet and knitting project? ABSOLUTELY. So, ergo.
I’m kicking myself for not trying this one for you, friends! I suspect it is crazy flattering, and has just a hint of edginess. This is the type of dress that Joana from Cup of Jo would love!
More Smoking Lily! This one looks to me like a dress version of their quintessential Hama Hama top. (I’m also kicking myself for not checking to see if it is reversible like the Hama Hama)
A pretty subtle butterfly silkscreen on this one:
Meanwhile, over in the mens’ section, this button down top from chez Simons is no ordinary shirt….
…it’s a CAR shirt!!!
Made in Spain, I think these booties are elfish and fashion-forward at the same time! I know that sounds odd, but just follow along with me….
….the cone heel and the tulip upper totally make the boot. And I’m not sure if this was part of the original design, but the boots are laced top down, instead of bottom up. SUCH A COOL TOUCH, and now my mind is blown!
Weeeeeeeee, one of my favorite designer names!
Allison Wonderland is also one of our Canadian faves!
Check out those adorable tiny stars on the collar and cuffs!
OK, one more Smoking Lily (and, friends, this is not even all the Smoking Lily we have in right now; there’s MORE in the shop!). This denim a-line skirt has a zipper on the back, so you are not actually expected to manage all the buttons on the front when you are getting dressed.
So we finally said good-bye to the 109 street shop…
…and moved into the 82 Ave space! Before we moved into it, the space had been a pharmacy, dry cleaner, gem-stone shore and cell phone repair place.
There are still some things that need finishing up, but overall the new space is adorable and I LOVE it!
Those of you follow along on Instagram know that I am now OBSESSED with Empress Bakery (an independent, woman-owned business) which is 2 doors down from us. Friends, their Bismarcks are AMAZING! Crispy on the outside, and the lightest, softest dough on the inside. I recommend the unglazed/unpowdered version. (I’m on a one-bismarck-a-day regime, and it is starting to be a problem!)
We opened last Saturday, and, friends, YOU ALL SHOWED UP! I missed chatting and connecting with you, so finally being able to reconnect with you was better than a Bismarck, and it was just what I needed.
I’ll be in the shop tomorrow (Thursday) for the early part of the day, and then all day Saturday. Come check out the new space, and then go grab a Bismarck, then come back to tell me how good the bismarck was!
I wrote this at Anvil Coffee House, another independent, locally {woman} owned business. When we support independent businesses we make an immediate positive impact on real human beings in our community.
