Happy Thirtieth What I saw Wednesdays, friends! This week in the shop we have a bunch of super-fancy things. Like, so fancy that I kind of have impostor syndrome; but I can't NOT share them with you, because they are pretty thrilling.
First off, let's say farewell to summer with these fabulous yellow sandals. This is the kind of shoe that you buy now, and stare at lovingly all winter long while waiting for spring to come again!
Weeeeeeeeeeee! This little green box purse is adorable! It reminds me of that little yellow Fossil purse we had in the shop last spring! (And just like the yellow purse, my huge mom-wallet does not fit into this green purse either. Boo).
This non-hooded hoodie is from one of my all-time favourite Canadian brands, Gentle Fawn:
The grey on black all-over silk screen is breath-taking and wins all the "uniqueness points" that we expect from independent Canadian designs...
...and it has a great cowl neck when zipped all the way up!
Look what Miz Mooz put out! These espadrilles are completely different from the Miz Mooz signature look we are used to. I totally love these! The print is awesome and totally reads "go travelling" to me (the bird, the Eiffel Tower, and the all around sensible walking shoe)!
I'm loving the symmetry of this Fossil necklace:
And look closely. Do you see what I see?
At the clasp is a teeny-tiny signature Fossil key and key hole!
From the newly public Artizia (trading as ATZ on the TSX, yo!) is this lovely knit shawl:
These aren't your ordinary Vans! Check out the print, the high cuff and the boot hooks...they're elevated Vans!
Hmmm, actually these Italian striped flats also make me want to travel!
Also Italian: this beautiful maroon Pulicati hand bag! Not only is this purse stunningly beautiful in its simplicity, but it hits two important points for me: stands on its own, and has little metal feet! This high-end purse is perfection!
Here it is just hanging out and being humble:
This Noul skirt is so cute and it fits well my from-the-future fashion directive!
The material is slightly stiff and it has silver threading (from outer space!) throughout:
The accessories have been banging lately! Here's an assortment of pins for you:
My ultimate favourite is the vintage bird broach!
OK, let's take a deep breath. In our humble little shop in Garneau is a pink tote from French luxury brand Longchamps:
The pink leather is embossed with the Longchamps logo. I'll just say it myself: this hand-bag is a score!
This DKNY down coat is in absolute pristine condition!
First off, check out that saftey-pin pin! It's a meta-pin! Ha! So what we are looking at here is a wallet made from used vinyl advertising posters...
The vinyl, which is not biodegradable or easily recyclable, is collected by BC designer Ashley of Pinto Bags. Each item is crafted by hand, and since she is reusing the found advertisements, each item is truly unique!
Hello, what's this?
And if you are wondering about the image on this one, here it is. It looks like maybe a movie poster form some '80s movie like "Legend" or "Labyrinth"? Anyone?
You know I love a good boot-heritage story. Like the origins of cowboy boots and the historical importance of functional, quality boots. Hunter rubber boots have been around since 1856! But let's talk history, friends. 160 years ago, in 1856, rubber was a very new, highly prized material, and you could only get it from one place: Western Africa. And the cheapest, fastest way for a European company to get rubber was through slave labour and the exploitation of African people and their lands. There was ALOT of blood and gore involved in the acquisition of rubber, as well as elaborate cover-ups when the occasional rumour of hand-chopping, slavery and child-labour would circulate amongst European consumers, who were quite enlightened at the time. Does this sound familiar, though? The fashion industry today still has alot of these same dark spots, which is why it's important and so great that so many of us now take the time to question the chain of production of our clothing.
So, back to the boots: the Hunter Company (who don't mention this history on their website and who will hopefully not sue me) currently have a very thorough Ethical Practices policy in place so you will feel no guilt about these lovely, glossy royal blue rain boots!
Isn't this Theory jacket perfect for the fall?
It has this really interesting double-layered closure:
Some super-chic Coach boots (who knew?):
This unique penny-bracelet is made with American dimes! That's $1.84 Canadian right there!
We have Dolce and Gabbana in the shop! D&G will forever be linked in my mind to my dear, dear friend (and yours!): Carrie Bradshaw.
Check out the beading on this one: it goes around the collar, down the button-band and across the pockets!
And we even have a D&G bag in the shop! This bag is really large and roomy, and look at that attached outer pouch!
And 15 years ago today this 1920's vintage leather-glove moment happened:
Happy Yanniversary (and happy birthday) Rod!!!
