Friends, this week I feel like I could take ALL the things and make one ginormous outfit out of them!
Who among us has not tossed their hair into a sleek up-do, called it a “messy bun”, and pranced around pretending to be Meghan Markle? I think this jacket is going to make that whole experience seem even MORE real, we won’t be able to tell who is the real Meghan and who is not!
Also ties up, in case it’s chilly on the morning you announce your engagement and you have to stand outside taking pictures.
Ooooo, friends, Guess what? This is a Kate Spade top!
Has an adorable little gold bow in the back to remind you that it and you are special!
From Aritzia: fringe!!!! They’ve nailed the perfect drape here -not too slouchy- as well as the perfect length and amount fringe.
Here’s a better shot to admire the angles on the fringe trim! Gorgeous!
Ok, friends, I am going to have a granular, sartorial freak-out for a moment, I hope you enjoy the ride. This is the leather Baggu bag! This is one of those magical fashion-bloggers-unicorn items, like a Cambridge Satchel or anything Rebecca from A Clothes Horse wears! Like, I knew the leather Baggu existed, but I have never seen one or known anyone who has been in the presence of one…..until now!
So, Baggu makes reusable, nylon bags in a bunch of cute patterns. They are awesome, and I have 4 large ones and 3 small ones. They hold SO MUCH STUFF, it’s like are Mary Poppins magical and bottomless. And, like good reusable bags, they fold all neatly into a little square.
Just a side yannicdote (see what I did there?): I always carry 2 or more Baggus with me, it is almost like a security thing. Well, a few weeks ago I was running errands and I got to the till and opened my purse and, GAH, I had *no reusable bags in my purse*. I am not an intense person or anything (haha), but as I acknowledged to the clerk that I would be needing a bag because I had not brought my own I had a full-on existential identity crisis because, if I am not a person who always has reusable bags on her, then who am I?!
OK, so, Baggu having become so popular for being practical, at some point they decided to make a leather version of their most popular reusable bag: the large Baggu, and thus the leather Baggu came onto the scene. It’s simple, with no embellishments, just the exact pattern of their large nylon bag, but in leather. And, ta-dah!
I love a pleated, puffy skirt. and on this one the thing I love the most is….
…..the ice cream print!
This top is a knit, which makes the bow on it look a little cartoon and pixelated, but really that just makes it even more charming! How fun would it be to wear this to with the ice-cream skirt??
Friends, it is a testament to how crazy I am about Baggu bags and my keen ability to compartmentalize that I waited this long to share with you that we have an Orla Kiely bag in the shop! For real, friends, I LOVE Orla Kiely! It’s whimsical and unexpected, but solid and vintage-inspired at its core. Like, the shape of this purse is vintagey, but the colour combo and patent leather is playful and quirky!
As for my trusty personal three-point must-haves, ideal-purse checklist: (1) this bag stands on its own (check!) and (2) has a big, almost square foot-print, so it will fit your mom wallet, knitting project and 8 reusable Baggu bags because you are scared of running out and not having any with you during errands and might feel, for that brief free-falling moment, that you are just a tiny insignificant speck of dust in the vast ocean of the universe made of specks and only having reusable bags on your person at all times can save you from melting into oblivion! (Um, check!) And (3) it has little feet (check)!
The Orla Kiely leaves look great on EVERYTHING!
How lovely and spring-tastic is this pleated skirt?!
This print! I just love how elegant the flower-print looks in grey on white!
And then MORE micro-pleats!
I find this abstract feather-y print so cool and feminine!
OK, and NOW friends we have to talk about the fact that I have a million of this type of cardigan, therefor I don’t actually need another cardigan, but I want this one so badly! I love the inky, illustration look of the print; I don’t have anything like this! This one is special!
Last week Edmonton writer Shawna Dirkson reached out to me because she is starting a project on minimalism and living with less. I mentioned that I believe our relationship with the accumulation of clothing is on a spectrum of its own, and that, amongst many other factors, the stories we tell ourselves about clothing is a very powerful pattern that shapes our consumption. Case in point, friends! I don’t need this cardigan for warmth or survival (or, even, let’s be honest, for diversity in my wardrobe), but I really, REALLY want it and firmly believe that my life will be complete if only I can have it!
And it’s not Wednesday without some Oak+Fort!
From the mens section:
How much do you think I love this print?!
And in the sales section: friends, maybe you’ve walked passed these shoes without a second glance, but I invite you to look because they are vintage Ferragamos! Plus, now they are on for 50% off!
I’ll be in on Saturday if you want to pop in for a chat! I can show you my Baggu collection and we can talk about the Sussexes and The Bachelorette!
